Pros: perfect for my needs - curl enhancer and frizz fighter
Cons: not for crunchaphobes, and the new scent isn't as good
The Bottom Line: I think I would shrivel up and die if I didn’t have my Sprunch Spray on hand in Florida.

| Greatpilgrim's Full Review: Aussie Sprunch Spray Strong Hold Pump 12 oz |
While Im still looking for the perfect hair gel, I have found my holy grail of finishing products, and its on your local friendly Walmart shelf.
Yep, Aussie Sprunch Spray has been fighting frizz for me for the past four years, and Im only amazed that it hasnt gotten an adoring review from me before, though surely deserving of it!
~The Product~
An unfancy 12oz purple spray bottle with a slightly tweaked Aussie label proclaims that this is a strong hold, non-aerosol hairspray. It comes in a pump dispensor with a mostly irrelevant cap (mine was lost by the first day), and being non-aerosol, the bottle is plastic and filled with liquid instead of your usual can-of-air hairspray.
I should note here that they redesigned this product slightly a couple years ago, so it looks a tiny bit different than the picture here. For one, the bottle went on a diet and is thinner than before, and Ive found that this makes it easier to grip when wet and slippery with water and hairspray (which inevitably happens). The other improvement is in the sprayer; the old one used to get clogged up a lot, but happily I havent had any problems with this one!
Application is a breeze just hold a few inches away from your hair and use the pump to spray a stream in as light or heavy an amount as you want, depending on how hard you press.
~My Experience~
Liquid hairspray? What good is that? For a curly girl, its GOOD! This slightly thick liquid is almost gel-like in its seemingly magical ability to tighten curls and keep them together for days. Im not sure if people looking for an Aquanet-style hairspray to hold a particular do in place will think its the bees knees like I do, but my wavy-haired roommate in college LOVED this stuff too.
I use the Sprunch Spray at the end of my long and complicated hair routine, which I will simplify for our purposes (you can thank me later) apply gel onto clean wet hair, scrunch into towel wrap for an hour, then let down and spray with this product before and after diffusing. Having had plenty of experience struggling with the final drying stage of my hair, where limp curls will simply straggle into frizzy fly-aways, I can attest to Sprunch Sprays powers of locking the curls into place with a strong hold, then keeping them in firm glossy ringlets till their next washing.
Because the spray is primarily denatured alcohol, it dries very quickly, and something in the combination of ingredients when paired with its evaporative nature makes curls scrunch up into tighter spirals. For some people, this would not be a plus, but I am always trying to get my hair to curl MORE, so this is my miracle solution! "Strong hold" is perhaps an overstatement, but I've used this to lightly mist my fancy updos with a layer of protection and have never had a problem with hair falling out of place. (I'm not sure I would try to create, say, 1990 flipped-out bangs with it. You shouldn't be wearing that hairstyle anyway!)
Yes, Sprunch Spray will make your hair pretty crunchy at the outset, but within a few hours your hairs natural oils will soften any crispy strands into sleek, held-together locks without an annoying halo of frizz or disintegration of the curls into waves. I can get away with not washing my hair for several days thanks to the staying power of this hairspray, and if I need a touch-up I use this in conjunction with a little gel and water and my hair practically looks as good as new.
Aside from being crunchy, the only other con I can think of is actually one of my favorite things about this hairspray the smell! Now, its true, when the product got a makeover Aussie changed the smell and it no longer has that heavenly Purple Dimetapp fragrance that made everybody want to sniff my hair. I was a little cranky at first about the more alcohol-y, chemical scent of the new and improved Sprunch Spray, but I still get compliments on the intense, purply smell of freshly Sprunch-Sprayed hair.
I should note that you will have to rinse your hands of the residue left after applying the product, as it seems to leave a much stickier coating on ones skin than the light airy formula does when able to evaporate away from your hair. This also necessitates some discretion in the bathroom as far as spraying other objects goes!
~Bottom line~
WOW does this hairspray work! I rarely have to worry about a humid day anymore thats every day in Florida so my life has had one less cause for stress ever since discovering the magical properties of Aussie Sprunch Spray. Who knew that a simple liquid hairspray could make wavy hair curlier and fight the frizzies for days on end? For $4, this is a steal, I tell you.
Standard disclaimers about hairsprays apply do I really even have to say that? dont go and stand in your fireplace and use this, etc etc.. But feel free to use this pretty much everywhere else, I surely do!
