While I was in the hospital after having my daughter, my nurse realized I was having trouble feeding because my nipples were slightly inverted, and she gave me these shells to help make them point out and keep them that way until it was time to nurse her. Well, they worked for that, and I kept using them for that reason only. But they were certainly NOT comfortable. They dug into and cut my nipples all the way around on both sides. Not to mention you can see their shape outside your clothing, so when you wear them in public you look really oddly shaped.
Also, the little holes in them that allow air to circulate, they are a big problem! Instead of the milk getting on your clothes little by little (which is bad enough) It all pours out at once as the shells fill and overflow. This is especially bad at night when you can't empty them regularly and every time you roll over they dump into your bed and within just a few hours the bed is soaked.
So, while they do do what they are meant to do, I really don't think it's worth the hassle.
