Well, I hate to put down one of the top selling videos in the country, and a friend of parents everywhere, but this video scares me for several reasons.
First, the Orwellian concept of sitting a young child in front of a television at an incredibly early age is an idea I find mildly disgusting. Our children will be bombarded with video images their whole lives, better that WE INTERACT WITH THEM rather than the electronic babysitter.
Second, the whole theory of the "Mozart Effect" has been in doubt by researchers for a very long time. Assuming that your child will "get smarter" by watching this video is doubtful.
Third, Mozart composed beautiful music, this video unfortunately has none of it. If your idea of Mozart is a cheesy sounding synthesizer playing Muzak versions of Mozart's best pieces then this video is for you. If you rather hear a concert pianist play complex compositions with deserving emotion you'll need to go somewhere else.
Fourth, I felt like I was watching an endless commercial for plastic toys.
Bears! Ships! Trains! on and on and on - All filmed at jaunty angles in someones basement with construction paper backgrounds. The only vaguely "artistic" parts of the video were quickly replaced by Bears! Ships! Trains!
Sure, I'll admit that small children are entertained by bright moving objects but maybe you'd be better off holding those objects yourself. The twenty minutes spent playing with your child will surely benefit you both more that the twenty minutes of peace you may get while they are hypnotized by "Baby Mozart"
