| 2buzy's Full Review: Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps 36000 |
Since I have just stated canning, I am still learning about all the different equipment. One of my favorite items would have to be the Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps 36000.
MY EXPERIENCE
I was so excited to make my own jam! Not only was it easier than I thought, I was able to find a new use for our huge supply of Raspberries, Marion berries and Blackberries. By picking up some local strawberries, I was able to make many different assortments of delicious jam!
Being able to make them low sugar was a great bonus and the way the kids were able to convince me to open up a couple of the jars to try. Getting the lid to unseal wasnt too hard, but it did but a bit of a bend on the lid. Therefore, after making having some peanut butter and (wonderful) jam, I had to bend the lid back and then hold it closed with the ring. It took only two days before one of the kids didnt bother with the ring (it wouldnt hold the lid down he says) and then his sister put on JUST the ring (I thought they were throw away lids, she explains) on another jar! I knew there had to be a better way!
WHAT ARE PLASTIC STORAGE CAPS
I saw the Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps at Walmart. They appeared to be exactly what I was looking for - a plastic lid to use on my jam jars once they were opened. I picked up the box to check them out. They sounded great, a simple screw on lid that would replaced the lid and ring once the canned item was unsealed. This would allow me to store the jam in the fridge and be pretty sure the kids could get this lid back onto the jar! As it turned out, they not only were able to keep a lid on the jam, they actually kept it on the Dilly beans once they were opened as well. Success!
The Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps were available in two sizes; regular and wide mouth. Since I was buying them for the jam, I picked up the regular size. I later picked up some of the Ball wide mouth storage caps to use on the pickles and fruit we will be canning later. One nice thing is that they are dishwasher safe so they can be used over and over.
The storage caps are made of a strong plastic and screw onto the mason jars easily. They are an off white color and available both online and locally.
The lids CAN"T be used for heat processing (common sense here) but they can be added to the jars and used in making freezer jam. Of course they can also be used for non-canned storage as well. The other night I made chicken soup and poured the left overs in a mason jar and closed it with my handy Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps. I put them in the fridge but they could have also been placed in the freezer. They are a great way to re-close canned jars as well as make them useful storage jars fr other items.
~~**~~**~~2BUZYS FINAL THOUGHTS~~**~~**~~
I am glad that I found the Ball Regular Plastic Storage Caps. They have made the jam much easier to close and will help make sure the pickles and other canned items actually have a cover on them in the refrigerator!
I like the fact they are reusable, dishwasher safe and able to go into the freezer. I also like that they can be used with the mason jars for extra storage, especially for sauces and soups.
I think they will be a nice addition to jams and other items given as gifts. They could be a included in the basket and after using them to store the opened jams, they could be used again later to store something else. Which would be a lot better than having the empty jam jar and ring! I am giving them a full five stars.
Thanks to the Home & Garden leads for getting this listed so quickly!
