MsHooterville's Full Review: Ballatore Gran Spumante - 750ml
Not being much of a drinker of alcohol at all, I have a peasant's taste in wine, but I do love sparkling wines. I prefer the variety that are light and fruity, without being too sweet or too carbonated. Sparking wines are one of the few wine categories I feel I know something about.
Balltore is very good quality, and generally one of the lowest-priced bottles of Spumante I find in my area. It's not cloyingly sweet, the effervescence is soft and fragrant, and there are no overpowering overtones in any flavor areas.
This is a great type of sparking wine to serve when you entertain a sizable group, because it adds festivity and it's affordable to serve in quantity. Everyone who wants some can probably have all they want, and you won't go broke.
It also is good mixed with fruit juices for Mimosas or champagne cocktails. Ballatore stands up well, or better, than higher-priced brands I've enjoyed.
