My daughter was born premature and was on an apnea monitor for 6 months. I was overly watchful of her and worried about the chance of SIDS. So blankets were off limits in her crib. I would dress her warmly but I still worried that she would get cold during the night. I was so happy to run across this product for her! The Beddiebye Zip Around Safety Blanket Small Microfleece was exactly what we needed to keep her warm and cozy while ensuring that she was safe from being smothered by blankets in her crib.
I was able to easily unzip it for diaper changes during the night without waking her. Made out of microfleece it was just right to keep her warm while not overheating her little body. The roomy bottom of this sleep outfit allowed her feet to kick with no restriction. This sleep outfit could not cover her face no matter how she moved around during the night so I was able to sleep easier knowing that she was safe. It remained in place no matter how much she squirmed around! I just cannot say enough good things about this product. It has to be my number one favorite sleep outfit for babies and that reminds me, I need to order one for my niece who just had a baby!
They comes in two sizes: "Small size fits 6 to 18 pounds or 19 to 26 inches; the large size fits 16 to 24 pounds or 26 to 31 inches in length" so she had plenty of growing to do before growing out of it. The shoulder tabs adjusted as she grew longer, so did this sleep outfit. It comes in the colors of pink, ivory, and blue. The Beddiebye Zip Around Safety Blanket Small Microfleece is incredibly soft and comfortable for baby.
One other nice thing about this sleep sack is that I was able to thread all of the wires from my daughter's apnea monitor through the bottom of the sleep sack without them tangling up. I just had them come out of the zipper by leaving the zipper a tad open.
To reduce chance of SIDS in babies: Put baby to sleep on his back, never put baby on a waterbed or other soft cushiony place alone. Tell babysitters and Grandmas not to put baby to sleep on his side or stomach. Too much bundling baby can overheat him. Placing stuffed animals and blankets in the crib could cover his mouth or nose or be choked on.
"Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a medical term that describes the sudden death of an infant which remains unexplained after all known and possible causes have been carefully ruled out through autopsy, death scene investigation, and review of the medical history. SIDS is responsible for more deaths than any other cause in childhood for babies one month to one year of age, claiming 150,000 victims in the United States in this generation alone - 7,000 babies each year -nearly one baby every hour of every day. It strikes families of all races, ethnic and socioeconomic origins without warning; neither parent nor physician can predict that something is going wrong. In fact, most SIDS victims appear healthy prior to death." http://sids-network.org/facts.htm
