rngpie's Full Review: Caroline Young - Big Bug Search
I recieved The Big Bug Search by Carloline Young by hostessing an Usbourne Books party online. This book retails at $9.95 but I recieved it free by having a qualifying party.
The Big Bug Search is a whopping 37 pages of beautifully illustrated bug searching fun. The outside cover is both sturdy and slick shiny laminated appearance so spills just wipe off.
The book itself measures an approx 9"x13" in size and is perfect for little hands and for sharing with more than 3 people.
The book is loaded with fun illustrations as well as facts about bugs. All kinds of bugs.
How the Book Works
Taken from my book:" This is a puzzle book all about bugs. I fyou look hard, you'll find beetles, butterflies, spiders, snails, slugs and hundreds of other creepy crawlies from all around the world."
Each big beautiful illustration spans two pages and has approx 100 bugs hidden in the design. Around the edges of the illustration, there are lots of little pictures of various bugs. This is also where the tips are about the bugs, like where they live, what they eat, and other important info about them.
All bugs from around the world are included, including poisenous spiders, as well as a few animals.
The last few pages of the book are the answers for where the bugs are hidden in each of the illustrations.
There are several catagories to choose from to see the native bugs to that area which include:
Homes and Gardens, spittle bugs, butterflies, wasps
Cactus City, black widow spider, scorpions honey ants
Island paradise, hissing cockroaches, emporer dragonflies
and more.
Each page contains at least 20 different bugs to find, and from 5-15 of each of those.
Even Mom is Learning
Even I didnt realize there were so many bugs all over the place. Unlike most children's books, I love looking through this bug book and reading all the facts and tidbits about the different bugs.
I love that they included poisenous bugs as well, it is nice to have a picture to know what a Black Widow Spider looks like, and where she might be found. Much easier to avoid that way.
