Bankrott's Full Review: Bissell 1715-G Spotlifter Bagless Handheld Vacuum
Having two dogs, a cat and three kids under 6 years of age in the house makes for a pretty spotty carpet... After seeing the Spot Lifter advertised for over a year and the price not dropping, I broke down and bought one about three weeks ago.
First: It does the job! Lifts spots! Even old ones like pet accidents, spilled juice, and all those unmentionable things that end up on one's carpet and leave their mark behind!
Second: The design looks good, but I find the wastewater tank hard to clean. And DO NOT EVER forget to put the drain plug back in before attaching it to the motor or the water will run out at the bottom. Very messy! And DO NOT EVER use too much pre-cleaner on the carpet or soak the spot to heavily with the cleaning solution. When the spot lifter sucks up the water, foam will build to no end, filling the waste water container and eventually blowing through the fan... Your only chance will be to use plain, clean water and to keep emptying the waste water tank!
Third: Holds its charge for about 10 minutes, but then again, it is only meant for the occasional spill! The biggest drawback as I see it though, is that the fresh water tank runs out way before then. So you get to take several trips to the sink, before you are done cleaning up.
Nevertheless I know at least that by using the Spot Lifter most of the disgusting stuff comes out of the carpet and does not get rubbed into it by using a paper towel or rag. Therefore I would buy it again despite the above mentioned drawbacks.
TIP: Use the Pre-cleaner solution on old stains, let it soak for a few minutes and then use PLAIN (no cleaner), warm water in the tank to pick up the pre-cleaner. This will save on cleaning solution.
I bought a large (very large) bottle of the regular Bissell cleaning solution at Costco for $14.
