The newest member of our family is the Bitty Baby doll from American Girl. We warmly refer to her as "Miss Stephanie" in our house and she has brought hours of entertainment to our daughter (and quite frankly ... us!) There is something special going on when you find yourself looking over at your five year old daughter during church who is holding "Miss Stephanie", cuddling her and feeding her a bottle that just melts your heart!! Okay ... well it melted the hearts of this Mom and Dad! :)
For the past few years we have been receiving the American Girl catalog via mail and I have had my "eye" on this particular doll. I had heard many rave reviews regarding American Girl products so I felt that I couldn't go wrong. When I decided to finally take the plunge and order this doll for my daughter, I felt that the prices were a bit high for the accessories. After viewing these products "in person" I quickly changed my tune. Not only was the presentation of these products in high quality, the accessories themselves were first class. Not only was my daughter going to be excited, I find myself growing with anticipation waiting for her to view her new doll.
Bitty Baby can be purchased in a variety of ethnic choices. There is ... African American, Blond Caucasian, Hispanic, Brunette Caucasian and Asian American. She can be purchased as Bitty Baby & Bitty Bear You can't forget about Bitty Bear! This is Bitty Baby's stuffed friend who at 5-inches, is pretty darn cute with it's own matching accessories!. For around $38.00 (plus tax and handling charges) you will receive Bitty Baby, in her pajama's along with her own Bitty Bear.
Another option is also available ... There is the Bitty Baby Starter Set which would allow you to save approximately $32.00, and receive MANY more things. Such as .... Bitty Baby, Bitty Bear, two different outfits with matching accessories, Bitty Baby's Suitcase (she has to travel too, right?!), some bottles and even a receiving blanket. All these items for around $98.00 (plus tax and handling charges).
Once you have a "Miss Stephanie" in your own house .... she is going to need some extra sets of clothes. They have an outfit for every occasion -Birthday, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween .... and even have those outfits for a rainy day, sunny day and EVEN ... COLD days!! With each selection you choose from you will receive ... an outfit, matching hat or headband, shoes and socks (if appropriate with the shoes), a matching accessory for Bitty Bear (like a hat or headband), a Bitty Bear book, and some sort of small toy for Bitty Baby. These outfits are usually around $22.00 to $24.00 and come in a decorative box ready for gift giving! Trust me ... my daughter has grown to love seeing these boxes when receiving a gift.
And if you thought that was all ... think again. The American Girl has thought of everything ... Some of the other items offered, but not limited too are; a stroller, a little red wagon, a lullaby basket, diaper bag, changing table AND a crib. Yes! She comes with almost as much "stuff" as our real "baby" does!! Perhaps that is part of the appeal.
Our "Miss Stephanie" currently has her own crib (which is pretty darn cute and is very well made) and a diaper bag. We currently have seven outfits for her and already have a list ready for Christmas. One of the great things about Bitty Baby is that several new outfits and accessories are introduced over a period of time ... Good for American Girl AND good for our "Miss Stephanie"!
If you are looking for a doll for your daughter, I would HIGHLY suggest Bitty Baby by American Girl! Not only is she cute, the quality is EXCELLENT!! And the smiles on my daughter's face reassures me that this was one of the BEST purchases I ever made for her!
