| hlbirk's Full Review: Black & Decker VP7240 DustBuster Handheld Vacuum |
Alas, the old Bissell stick vac I've owned for 3 years has finally been laid to rest. Do things like that ever happen at a good time? No. Off to the store I run in search of a new cleaning device for my kitchen floor.
Not being a big "online" shopper I headed for our friendly Wal-Mart. I'm more of a "touchy-feely" type of person and I wanted to see and feel exactly what they had to offer in the way of stick vac's and handheld vac's. Naturally I wasn't wanting to give away my first born son...er, well...on second thought....KIDDING! Just kidding. Seriously, I didn't want to spend more than $30-35 and from what I saw when I first stopped by the display I knew this was going to be tricky.
After careful scrutiny and 1000 yanks on my pant leg from the little ones to please hurry up and choose, I decided on the Black and Decker Dust Buster Cordless Vac. The price listed was right around $36 and I could live with that.
Why I chose this unit:
**Sleek design
**Weight, fairly lightweight and easy to carry
**Price
**7.2 volts of power
**Quick charge time
These are just a few of the main reasons. I liked the fact that 7.2 volts of power (versus 4.8 volts) meant longer running time. Let me tell you, THIS MACHINE SUCKS! I've picked up everything from cereal to small pieces of paper and beads from my daughter's kit. No, my messes aren't generally that big, nor do they require more than a few minutes to clean up....but sometimes I like to use the machine on my steps or in other spaces around the house. This Dust Buster Cordless Vac is also easy enough for my 5 and 7 year olds to use and we all know that sometimes kids aren't very quick about doing chores.
This unit also contains a Double Action Filter System and VersaPak Interchangeable Battery System. The filter system allows the power to last longer and it actually reflects the dirt and gunk back into the machine so your hands never touch it. There are 2 buttons on the top of the machine, one is for power and the other is to "pop" the top off and dump the dirt. It's SOOOO easy!
The battery system is removable and provides additional cleaning power and the booklet says they can be used in over 20 cleaning, lighting and power tool products.
The Black and Decker Dust Buster Cordless Vac, model VP7240, comes with a few extra attachments that are stored right in the cradle. You get: the vacuum, a crevice tool, upholstery brush, double action filter system, wall mount charging base and 2 VP100 VersaPak Batteries. The box specifically states a full two-year warranty. Hey, for $36 that's pretty darn sweet!
If there is a downside to this, I would have to say it's the vents located on both sides of the unit. There is so much power to the darn thing that it blows out the side vents. It's clean air, not dust and dirt, but it kind of took me by surprise when I first used it. It's enough pressure to blow the sides of your hair or make you blink your eyes. It also entirely depends on the angle at which you are using it, so I'm always careful about that.
Know someone in the market for a tool that will help with those little mishaps that life deals us? Get them a Dust Buster!
