| rightnow's Full Review: Blowfish Sushi to Die For |
Why is it that sushi restaurants in San Francisco are either magnets for the newly rich (aka conspicuous consumers) or the stubbornly bohemian (aka anti-antipersperant)? Blowfish falls in the first category, and while the sushi is OK (certainly not as great as everyone says, and way overpriced too boot), it isn't good enough to offset the vibe created by those Z3 driving, IPO obsessed, diners from the Marina. The interior in painfully stark. The Japanese cartoons droning from the TV above the kitchen make me feel as though the end of the world is near. If you can ignore vibe, maybe you'll like the place. I'm getting increasingly sensitive to it. The funny thing about this restaurant is that it's all the way in the industrial Mission, about as far as one can get from the Marina and still be in the city. These fancy-pansed diners risk having their cars broken into or keyed. They risk seeing a homeless person (gasp) and still they come. I don't get it.
