Pros: Quick read, interesting, readers gain a better understanding of this UFC icon.
Cons: Some parts drag on, but sub-themes make it a very personalized view of Couture.
The Bottom Line: The reader comes out of the book feeling like they understand the legend Couture better. I don't think he leaves much out from his life story. Wait for paperback.

| tebush's Full Review: Randy Couture - Becoming the Natural: My Life in a... |
This book offers an inside view of the future UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy "The Natural" Couture. The book is co-written by Sherdog.com News Editor Loretta Hunt, who does a fantastic job of capturing the voice of Couture and his legacy.
This book traces Couture's upbringing, which includes two sisters, an absent father and a strong, supportive and secretive mother. The theme of dysfunction runs throughout the book, and its presence accounts for some of Couture's future decisions, including marrying and having a child while still in his teens, questioning his relationship with both of his parents at times, and pursuing a career that enables him to compete, compete, compete--from wrestling, to Olympic trials as a Greco-Roman wrestler to six-figure paychecks as mixed martial artist with the UFC.
Perhaps the most intriguing of subjects is Couture's marriages. He married his pregnant girlfriend just out of high school and had two children with her, cheated several times, married again (to one of the women he cheated on his first wife with), had a child with her, and then married a third time to a woman he cheated on his second wife with. This lends itself to the opinion that Couture, deep inside, might be insecure when it comes to love and afraid of confrontation, which he admits to in the book.
Couture does lend a clearer voice to the dealings with the UFC and the 2007 upheaval between him and Dana White, which led Couture to 'resign' from his contract. The reader can take from it the understanding from Couture's side and why he felt the way he did and made the decisions he did in that area.
Overall, a quick, interesting read if you are a fan of Randy Couture and Mixed Martial Arts stars.
