tski's Full Review: Kenneth S. Deffeyes - Beyond Oil: The View from Hu...
The book Beyond Oil The View From Huberts Peek by Kenneth S. Deffeyes, is about Huberts theory of the peek and fall of oil production. In 1956 Hubert used his equation Y=a mx to show his prediction of how long it would take for oil production to peek. Scientists doubted Huberts Theory for years and years, but in the early 1970s when oil production peeked, he was finally recognized for it. This book also talks about different types of oil fields and their origins. It discusses all the things that have to happen for oil to be created in the earth. Later it goes on and takes another look at Huberts analysis of oil production, then goes on to talk about the future of fossil fuels and the possibilities of electric powered cars, like hydrogen fuel cell cars made by German Ford AG. Deffeyes also talks about the different methods scientists use to find oil fields in different parts of the world. The primary point of the book is about the disruption of the energies, and that we have less fossil fuel than people actually believe.
I found this book quite boring. This is a book I would probably not have read outside of this project. This book was lengthy and rather hard to digest all of the information chapter after chapter, but this was a good informational book but it didnt make me want to stop reading. I found this book interesting at times but it was hard to understand.
I would recommend this book to people that are interested in economics and oil. This is a great book for people who enjoy math related because it is based on Huberts equation for oil production. This book is geared more towards adults and would be quite challenging for younger children.
