Re: Helpful Because (Reply to this comment)

Hello and thanks for the advice You're right. I got enthused about the educational value of the book and forgot to tell what it's about. Oh my!
Here's a more detailed view (part of which I took from the back of the book)
Two families on a summer vacation; thirteen yr old cousins, Joe and Ronnie, their older sisters, Genie and Valerie, and their younger sisters, Anna and Emily. (parents included, but excluded as much as possible by the kids!)
The curious 13 yr old boys decide to investigate the deep woods on the lake and stumble upon a strange site. Huge, white boulders in the shape of a giant skull that they can only see from the top of a tree. Of course they investigate, though it could be dangerous.
This is the beginning of an adventure, with the discovery of a hidden, mystery note that starts the clues to a 300 yr old mystery. The baffled boys literally stumble onto, or into a cave, where they find an old cup, and old diary and the skeleton that it belongs to!
The diary holds clues to a world of pirate secrets, battles, their lives and the special cup belonging to a pirate named "Spike Sloan". "Spike" had a terrible battle where he lost three fingers, rather than his whole hand, so he fashioned a "spike" of sorts. But this skeleton had all his hand bones and the diary & cup that belongs to Spike.
As they boys try to figure out the clues, which are all in rhyme, they are followed by their older sisters and now have to involve them, like it or not. The boys must face dangers in the cave, while the girls "cover" for them. Along the way, the little sisters get word of things, making it more difficult for the boys to finish their task.
They go back day by day, trying to make sense of the clues, at times injured, all the while, trying to keep their parents out of everything!
They discover a trunk full of old weapons as their first "find", but still haven't found the real treasure yet.
Everyone gets involved as Joe and Ronnie plan a midnight adventure into the dark, scary woods to dig for the other trunk. Everything is going well, except that they are scared to death, when Joe insists on returning to the deep cave for a souvnir. Ronnie doesn't want to be alone and follows. With some kidding around, the entrance of the cave gets blocked in. They aren't concerned as they have planned a time for a rescue if needed. However, they didn't plan on there being no air. How are they going to get out of this one? They eventually get help, BUT,
there is something else unexpected.
The treasure. Without revealing the ending, there is something very special about the trunk with the weapons AND the trunk with the treasure, leading to "next year". Aren't you curious now?

Hi, and welcome to Epinions. I really enjoyed what you've written so far, as you put a lot of enthusiasm and personal experience into the review. However, I don't have a clear idea of what this book is about. Your review really needs a brief plot summary in order to be more helpful. You don't need to rewrite the book, but giving a few details will add to your review.
If you edit this or have any questions, please email me and include a link as well as your user name. You are obviously a very good writer, and I hope to hear from you soon. I also hope that we'll be seeing more book reviews from you here on Epinions.
Warmly,
Cindy

First, I enjoy your personal experiences with this book. The way in which you describe the questions at the end of each chapter is very informative.
In order to render your review Very Helpful, I would suggest providing a more detailed plot summary--excluding the end of the book, of course. You may also wish to break your review into paragraphs. Do not be discouraged, thoughj; what I gave you was the equivalent of a B. If you update and would like me to rerate, I would be happy to do so; my E-mail address is BethesdaLily@yahoo.com.
