I agree. The unfortunate side of diners choosing a restaurant based exclusively on Zagat's is that they are often disappointed. Checking out the menu does little to inform a potential customer, so I recommend walking into the restaurant and watching the meals, as they are served. Does the food smell good? Do the sizes appeal to you?
It is understandable, also, that an occasional piece of meat will be over or undercooked. You always have the option of sending it back and asking the kitchen to redo it. You may have to wait a few minutes, but at least you will enjoy your food.

Well, of course I have checked out the menu before, but a lot of times, the menu doesn't tell you exactly how everything tastes like, be it the entrees or the dessert. As far as the portion goes, I don't think anyone can judge for you whether it's too big or not. We are not talking about some 24-hr diners or some franchise restaurants, in such fine dining places, portions are supposed to fit everyone just about right. Perhaps it was just me who found them incredibly huge, but it was just my opinion.

Your only complaint is that it's noisy not classy. This I have no problem with. That is great info.
To complain about the size of a chop is just plain weird. If an overabundance of food is not appealing to you; why not just ask the staff what the portions are like?
If the desserts are too rich why bother to order them? My wife and I often go somewhere else to get dessert. Sounds like they anticipated your needs by offering something light; like a sorbet.
I would suggest that at any restaurant you go to, communication is one of the keys to a pleasurable dinning experience.
Why would anyone take their parents on such a special evening and not eat there first or at least check out the atmosphere and menu.
I suspect that your expectations doomed this restaurant before you ever entered the place. The backlash of being number #1 caused you to find anything wrong you possibly could.
