| jfkreviews's Full Review: Brew Moon - Braintree |
Brew Moon fits into a strange niche in the restaurant world. It’s better and more expensive than T.G.I. Friday’s but it’s not quite good enough to be considered fine dining. It’s kinda like a really good first date place. It’s not the only place I can think of off the top of my head that fits into this category. I would put Brew Moon in the same category with The Cheesecake Factory or Vinny Testas. But, lest you be confused, Brew Moon is not to be overlooked as a dining destination. It is for the aspects above that I return again and again. I always get a really good meal for an affordable price.
Brew Moon started out as a microbrewery based restaurant that offered good beer and good food to boot. The excellent food quickly overtook the beer as the main attraction at this small chain. Today it is as much a draw for non-drinkers as it is for beer lovers.
The atmosphere at Brew Moon is not what you would expect at a restaurant based on the premise of an in house brewery. This definitely does not feel like a bar. In fact, most people who visit this restaurant never notice the extensive beer selection. If you’ve ever been to The Cheesecake Factory you probably already have a good idea of what the Brew Moon atmosphere and décor are like. The two are very similar despite being based on separate coasts. The Cheesecake Factory is a California based chain while Brew Moon is from right here in Massachusetts. Surfaces are of blonde wood and brushed steel. Music is a little loud but not oppressive. The dining area is spacious and the tables fairly well separated.
Expect slow service when you come however. That is my only complaint about this chain. I’ve been to two of the three locations and I received slow and rather poor service at both every single time. Waiters are hard to spot and orders, especially for large groups, are occasionally fuddled.
The food is well worth the sketchy service however. Though the menu is not extensive, the selections are excellent. I highly recommend the hamburgers. The herb rubbed steak with herbed butter is also excellent. The appetizer selection is also quite good and the desserts are phenomenal! Order anything with chocolate and I’m sure you’ll be impressed.
Unless you get over zealous you’ll probably end up spending about $10 more for a meal at Brew Moon than you would on a meal at Friday’s and you’ll enjoy this one much more. Brew Moon has found its niche and, I hope, it will flourish there. Food this good should not be overlooked.
