wangofree's Full Review: Brita Aquaview Faucet Mount On - Tap Water Purifie...
Having suffered with nasty, iron laced water at work, we decided to install a water filter system. With previous experience with Brita water filter pitchers, we opted for the Aquaview filter.
Installation
This unit comes with a couple of adapters which allows for easy attachment to your kitchen faucet. Remove your existing filter screen, match up the adapter, hand tighten the filter to your faucet. That's it. Very easy to install.
Filter Installation
The filter cartridge has a plastic cover that protects 2 holes, an outlet and inlet. Remove this protective cover, unscrew the filter housing cap, and the cartridge slides easily into the unit. The cartridge has "guides" along the side that prevent you from incorrectly installing. Once it's in, screw on the outside filter housing cap, and you are ready.
Using the Filter
The next step, is identifying how the 3-way selection valve works. Brita has given you the option for 3 types of water use. The valve has 3 settings, non filtered spray pattern, non filtered water, and filtered water.
Before using your new unit, it is recommended that you set it to the "filter" setting and run a gallon or two of water through it.
Water Meter
This unit has a set of warning lights to help you monitor when it's time to replace the filter cartridge. Green light for "filter is good", yellow light for "filter is ok, but replace soon" and red light for "filter needs immediate replacement".
After initially running water through your filter, you simply press the "Reset" button on the meter, and hold it for 3-4 seconds. The green, yellow, and red lights will cycle, and then the green light will come on. Additionally, there is a low battery warning light to replace your button CR 2032 cell when it gets low.
Well, how does it work?
The water flow will be slightly restricted from what you may be use to out of this faucet. The filtered water in our kitchen will fill a gallon container in about 60 seconds. Of course, your experience may be different depending on your water pressure.
The taste of the water is excellent. Off taste, light "iron" color are totally removed from the filtered water.
One cool feature is the inspection window. You can pry off a small quarter size "door" from the protective cartridge outer housing and see the filter. As time goes on, you'll notice the filter medium getting less bright white, and more yellow as sediment is trapped.
For the life of the filter, it is recommended that only cold water be run through it. Maintenance is easy, just replace the cartridge when the red light comes on.
Cartridges cost around $19, and usually last us around 2 - 3 months, depending on how much filtered water we use.
The unit comes with 1 filter cartridge, and costs around $35.
