Pros: Great likeness, accessories, transforming feature--this is one of the best PALz
Cons: Billy Idol would be so proud.
The Bottom Line: From the duster to the tiny pack of cigs, this IS Spike. And I love him.

One thing "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" usually did well was creating a "Big Bad"...a major villain for each season who was usually dead by the end of it, but who was a big player and serious threat to Buffy and her friends over an arc of episodes. In Season 2, one of the Big Bads is Spike, aka William the Bloody, aka a Billy Idol-lookin' Brit who really likes to hurt people. And get hurt.
I've known about Spike for some time before I started watching the show--he's a part of pop culture by this point, and so I knew he wasn't gonna die by the end of the season, because he's too darn cool. What I didn't expect is that he'd be so funny. So I'm glad that he's part of the second series of Palisades Toys' PALz, block figures based on Season 2 of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
The Spike PALz figure is one of my favorites in this series--possibly my favorite, period. He's got the same stylized simplicity of the other block figures, and the great articulation that I've come to expect from the PALz. The joints at neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, and ankles mean that you can pose him pretty much any way you can imagine.
Spike's likeness is dead-on to the appearance of actor James Marsters, and his two outfits include his trademark red button-down shirt and long black duster. This is a unique feature to the Buffy series of PALz--each figure you buy contains the pieces and accessories for two completely different versions of the character.
The accessories include some key mystical pieces used in the second season of the series: a censer, complete with little gold chain; a gold colored "Du Lac Cross" with a hidden dagger; and best of all, a little pack of Morley brand cigarettes. Inside joke--Morleys are the brand smoked by "The X-Files" Cancer Man. Nice crossover, there. The final accessory is a leg of "The Judge," a demon that Spike and Dru assemble piece by piece--a perfect way for you to "collect them all" and build a new character. Great idea, and it's very nicely executed.
This figure adds so much to the collection--Spike's character is complex, and changes greatly over the course of the series, and he's necessary to complete the set. So you'll want to pick him up.
You can find him and the other Buffy PALz at Media Play, Suncoast, and Sam Goody, along with other specialty stores like comic book stores. They're also sold at various online stores, and they often give a discount on pre-orders or when you buy complete sets. So check 'em out, pick 'em up, you'll be glad you did. These are some great little toys.
