cendant's Full Review: Canon PowerShot SD600 / IXUS 60 Digital Camera
My wife and I decided that it was finally time to enter the digital age and purchase our first digital camera. We were looking for a small point-and-shoot camera that took good pictures and was easy to use.
I researched a bunch of cameras decided on the SD600 mainly because of the review it got in Wired Magazine. You can read that review at the following link:

I was also able to get a fantastic deal on the camera at newegg.com, which offered it for a low $220 and came with an additional 1 Gig memory card as well as a great little case to carry the camera around in. After searching around on the internet, I was also able to find a coupon code for an additional $10 or so off the cost of the purchase.
The camera is extremely easy to use. It comes with a great instruction book that really helped me because I am someone who didn't know didn't know what ISO settings (sensitivity to light), macro (closeup mode) and other photographic terms meant before I purchased this camera.
The point and shoot mode is very intuitive, and there are tons of settings that adjust everything from flash, redeye reduction, autofocus, the aforementioned ISO settings and zoom. The camera even has a mode for photographing babies or small animals that is handy when you're trying to photograph a subject that moves around while you're trying to take a picture (it keeps them in focus).
I was also extremely impressed with the size and weight of the camera, which is basically the same size as a deck of cards. This makes it a great pocket cam that you will hardly notice as you carry it around.
As the Wired article mentioned, the videos that this camera takes come out in .AVI format, which creates some very big files. I didn't even plan on taking videos with this camera, but the quality of the video really amazed me when I saw it. We used it to take a short video of our Christmas tree to send to my wife's family back home. Unfortunately, the .AVI file, even though it was only about a minute long, was too large to send through our hotmail or yahoo accounts. I had to do some searching on the Internet to find some free software that would convert the video to a smaller .MPEG format before i could send it via email.
If you buy this camera, I recommend you get a larger memory card, because the included 16MB card will fill up very quickly if you're taking pictures at the highest quality 6MP setting.
All in all, I've had this camera for a few months and I've found it to be extremely versatile and dependable. The worst performance I've gotten from it was at a small concert in a dimly-lit venue. It just didn't have the ability to take good pictures in that low light situation, which in retrospect was probably asking too much of a little pocket cam. For all other snapshots in decent light, however, the quality has been fantastic.
