Top 5 positive aspects
1-Takes great pictures, especially in sunlight. If there’s one thing this camera does well, its take pictures with great color and sharpness if you have good lighting. I love the depth and texture of my shots and using the optical zoom, the detail is excellent. The camera also does an above average job in low light, although consumer reports gives it a high low-light rating, although the auto flash settings can get in the way sometimes, see above. However, pictures with the flash on and within 5-7 feet in low light come out clear and with great color definition. 2-Great overall design. I love the small, compact nature of the camera and the rounded edges. Fits great in your pocket and no wasted space on this puppy whatsoever. Plus the case is metal feels like it is very durable and well constructed. I have the black camera and the black matte exterior looks terrific. 3-Fast shutter speed. This camera takes pictures much faster than my previous three Pentax cameras. This is a nice feature that is commonly ignored when making purchase decisions. I’ve had cameras with slow processing speeds and it can be very frustrating especially when you are taking shots that require a quick response. 4-Good battery charging system. I like how the camera comes with a compact charger which is about 2 in x 2.5 in that plugs directly into the electrical socket. It’s very compact and easy to travel with. Plus there are no wires that might get tangled! 5-Bright and clear 2.5' in LCD screen. The built in LCD screen does a great job displaying pictures, and in clear enough detail that you can make a sound decision on how it will display on your computer monitor.
Top 5 negative aspects
1-No delete button. Since there is no delete button, in order to delete pictures on the camera you have to press three different buttons to delete a picture. This can be very annoying, especially if you have to delete multiple pictures. 2-The auto flash depends too much on the low light capability and chooses very high ISO levels, which forces you to manually change the settings frequently. I’ll admit that this camera has great low light capability and changing the ISO level is a nice feature, but I have often found myself in low light settings where I thought the auto flash would fire the flash and it didn’t. This can be very frustrating because such photos typically come out fuzzy and with poor color and contrast. In addition, it can be very annoying when you give the camera to someone else to take a photo of you and when the auto flash doesn’t go off, you need to take the camera back to change the settings. 3-Zoom button is awkward. The zoom button is placed on the trigger, shutter button and swivels left or right to zoom in or out. This means that you have to take your index finger off the trigger button to operate the zoon. I would prefer that they would put the button in a separate location, preferable near where your thumb would rest so that you can operate the zoom while keeping your finger on the shutter button. 4-Only a 3x optical zoom. My old Pentax M50 had a 4x optical zoom and it really made a difference because I hate relying upon the digital zoom due to the fuzziness it creates. I realize that it’s difficult to add a 4x zoom lens in such a compact camera, but I really think that it would make the camera so much better. 5-Buttons are too small. Some of the buttons like the select button is so small that I have to use the corner of my fingernail to push it without hitting an adjacent button. People who have big fingers or have trouble with dexterity should avoid this camera.
Bottom line
A well designed, great looking camera that takes excellent photos. There are some minor design flaws like small buttons, delete functions, and the auto flash settings, but other than that you will be pleased with this purchase. I would again like to reiterate that if you are sensitive to small buttons, this camera is not for you.
