thegog's Full Review: Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera
I wasn't ready for a DSLR, or at least wanted to go for a Super Zoom camera before I ventured into the DSLR world without spending as much money as one of the Kits in the 800-1000 range.
Here's my opinion on the good:
Solidly built, Controls are easily accessible, Outrageous 20X zoom. HD (720) movie recording, hotshoe for adding flashes, rear LCD screen swivels around and backwards. Ability to change Shutter and Apeture Priority, Over 5 Preset Scene settings, Although alot of people don't like the 4 AA batteries, I've been getting around 200 pictures per set which I believe is excellent. Uses SDHC (class 6 or better is best for faster writing to the memory card).
Here's my opinion on the bad:
Flash is weak, causes too much red-eye, too many shadows. I would recommend getting a gary fong pop-up diffuser, and then getting a flash that you can use on the hotshoe. I used a Sigma EF530 and get much better results, meaning pictures come out clearer, background much more fuller
Although the lens cap is not attached to a strap, it can be fastened by a built-in clip behind the cap. I purchased a lens cap holder just to be safe in case it falls.
Manual is not at all too helpful if your a beginner in photography. I purchased a course book on the camera to help me learn more about photography and apply it to this camera.
