godzthunder's Full Review: Canon SELPHY CP740 InkJet Photo Printer
I purchased a canon powershot g9 and decided that I needed to have a good photo printer to go with it! I chose to cp740 becase it was cheap and was a canon, the company that made my camera.
When I got home I plugged the device into an outlet, put the "ink" cartridge into the device (very easy to do) loaded the photo paper into the tray and inserted the tray into the device.
After that i plugged my camera into the device, selected my photo and hit print. within 40 seconds i had a beautiful crisp photo of my daughter close to real life in color and clarity.
the device accepts SD MMC and compact flash cards. it also plugs into a PC (though computers are not required for use) and through pictbridge, it plugs directly into the camera itself via a built in usb cable. (so rare to find a usb cable that comes with a device)
the pictures at 4x6 are sharp with every detail of color added (provided you have a good camera of 6 megapixels or more, you will get sharp bright colors). I saw great detail with few if any blemishes. The great thing about this device is that it will eliminate red eye AND it can print one picture on a photo, two, four and eight pictures all on one photo. This makes nice postcards (which by the way, all canon photo paper has a postcard format on the back side)
My wife and I have figured out a spectacular use for this device. The printer can already put one, two, four or eight smaller pictures together to make a collage of photos on one picture BUT my wife has figured out that if you put the image onto a PC first and use a scrapbooking software you can make beautiful borders and crop in all kinds of images, text and the like into the photo. save the image and then print professional custom card images (like a child in a cheerleading outfit with a fooball border and the words GO TEAM! on the bottom). This device is perfect for the scrapbook enthusiast and this process cost pennies compared to having these pictures done this way at walmart or at a photolab. This alone makes this purchase well worth the price. My wife's scrapbook pages have been deemed award winning ever since we have gotten this printer to make quality photos.
Here is the best part... The paper and ink refils are under thirty dollars for 108 pictures!!! The only thing cheaper of high quality I have seen on the market is the paper for the Kodak printer BUT that printer costs two hundred dollars (compared to under a hundred for the CP740). This makes digital photography affordable and easy. I fully reccomend this device to the one who is looking for a good photo printer. Canon will not dissapoint
