My wife and I went on this cruise. Quick process to board the ship. From there downhill though. Beer is $4.50 plus mandatory $.68 tip. Drinks are small with cheap liquor unless you want to pay more. Since you can't take liquor, etc. on board the final bar tab can be a real downer. Service personnel attitudes are mixed, from friendly waiters to god awful purser desk people. Basically, anyone likely to be tipped immediately was friendly - the rest weren't. Purser folks especially were condescending as heck, even to the point of one of them rolling her eyes at a question. Casino help were similar with a few exceptions. We ate once in Truffles, then decided to skip since food was better on upper deck buffet. Cabin steward literally walked into our cabin twice within a second of knocking softly. Once we didn't even hear a knock. Once I demonstrated how to knock loudly and then count to five, he was ok. They did do a good job of cleaning but had trouble keeping the fridge stocked. We had a private balcony on the 4th deck. Other than a very dirty plexi-glass guard railing it was pretty nice. TV is not good - mostly looks like low quality mpegs. One music channel played all black videos, so the music definitely didn't fit the crowd. I guess that makes people try to find other entertainment like the casino perhaps.
Though most of the accessible (read reachable) areas were clean and maintained, some areas, like chandeliers, ledges, beams, etc. were absolutely filthy with dust, etc. The big chandelier of glass leaves and flowers on deck nine had about half the light bulbs burnt out and we would not eat near it for fear of dirt or dust falling in our food.
Call very early for room service in the morning or you may wait for long time. We turned in our breakfast order two times the day before but never received it the next morning. The person answering the room service phone was also rude and short, but the person delivering the food was very friendly. Tips again.
The Golden Fleece was exceptionally good. We enjoyed the service, ambiance, and especially the food. DON'T MISS THIS. It costs $30 per person and is well worth it.
We went during spring break and thought we'd have a problem with a lot of kids and brats running around. We didn't. They pretty much behaved with few exceptions. A lot of adults were another story. Cutting in waiting lines, or arriving early at shows and other places and saving seats was common. Very bad adult behavior sometimes. The cruise personnel did nothing about it even when they were asked to.
If you fly into Fort Lauderdale get a cab to the dock and back to the airport and save a lot of money. You can see the ships from the airport. Don't waste money on Carnival transfers. A cab is much quicker also.
Carnival adds $10.00 per person to the final bill for tips. We had them cut this back to $5.00, and should have had them remove it altogether. We tipped the cabin steward $100.00 and the waiters an additional 15% when ordering over the mandatory tip the bar adds. Basically, we tried to tip according to service.
The poker slot progressive jackpots were reset before leaving each port of call - this is downright dishonest!!
