| Freak369's Full Review: Cheeky Monkey Webkinz (8in) |
First off, I have to thank MaryTara for sending me this very adorable monkey and getting me hooked on the Webkinz website. She had been telling me about it for a few weeks and I started looking for a critter to adopt but the only one that I really liked was the Cheeky Monkey and of course none of the local stores had him in stock. A few days later a large padded envelope arrived and I was thrilled when I opened it and saw my very fluffy monkey. There are a few different styles of monkey to choose from but personally, I think this one is the cutest and looks the best. I still have to laugh abut my initial interaction with Incubus, I thought that it interacted with the website so I spent a couple minutes feeling his arms and legs to see where the sensor were located. Silly me, he's just a stuffed animal but he is my faithful friend when I am surfing the web late at night. He's usually on top of my computer monitor looking at me with a cute smile that only a Cheeky Monkey can have.
Ganz Webkinz Cheeky Monkey
One thing that I love about this monkey is that he is extremely soft; when I was in the hospital he was there with me and always made me smile when I'd wake up from a nap. Kids would love sleeping with this because there are no hard spots outside of the nose but that's small so it's not that big of a deal. His midsection is stiffed with pellets but even those are soft and move freely; to me these are nicer than the Beanie Babies because they have more detail to them and once you purchase one [or receive one as a gift] you have a year's access to the Webkinz website. This is a 100% kid safe place where you can play games, interact with your cyber pet and if you are lucky enough to have cool friends, you can even visit other people's homes.
My Cheeky Monkey has the "W" Webkinz rainbow logo on his left front paw as well as the official Ganz tag on his tush. When he arrived there was a small plastic wrapped tag that was attached to him with a blue ribbon; inside that was the code that was used to register the pet at the website and activate my free one year subscription. The cyber version of the Cheeky Monkey is just as cute as the real life one and yes, they both have adorable cute tails. One thing that really shocked me about the Cheeky Monkey was the amount of detail that went into making him. The small indentations on his paws, the not-too-short / not-too-long tail, cute eyes and tiny little ears are all perfectly proportioned and make him look 100% huggable.
I haven't washed him yet and I have no idea what the proper procedure is for it but I have sent him through the dryer a few times to freshen him up. I put him inside a heavy flannel pillow case and tossed it in the dryer with a used but still slightly smelly dryer sheet. After he spent almost a week with me in the hospital, the last thing I wanted to smell when I was trying to fall asleep was anything 'medical' so tossing him in the dryer for five minutes on low heat did the trick. Because of the nose and eyes, I wouldn't leave him or any Webkinz in the dryer for more than that amount of time or use anything but low heat.
The Webkinz stuffed animals that are this size aren't cheap but they are worth it. Since I received this as a gift I can't say exactly how much it was but others I have purchased have been between $11.99 and $14.99 depending on the store and area I was shopping. Twelve dollars for a stuffed animal? Well, you do have to take into consideration that you do get a years access to the website and when you sign up you get some pretty cool things to start you off. I don't regret any of the Webkinz that I have purchased so far and they make for great gifts for anyone that is into collecting them or is active at the site. If you buy one for a friend they dont have to add the code to the site immediately, they can wait until their membership is close to expiring then add the code and extend it for another year. Of course that means they won't be able to have an active cyber pet that matches the one that you gave them; simply put, the code doesn't have to be activated within a certain time frame after a purchase is made.
The Bottom Line
If you are just shopping for a stuffed animal and have no interest in joining the Webkinz site then look for something that's cheaper. There is a strange black market for the codes so if you are shopping for one, make sure that the tag is completely sealed as most stores will not accept a return on a Webkinz under any circumstances. My monkey goes everywhere with it and people always comment about him; when I was in the hospital a few of the nurses admitted that they were hooked on the website because their kids got them into it. Incubus will soon be joined in his little cyber play land with a female friend. Her name, Succubus and yes, she is a Cheeky Monkey too!
As always, thanks for the visit
