Recently our son outgrew his infant carrier and graduated to the "big boy" car seat. That really made everything more difficult, from shopping to eating out. I found this hook-on highchair at a local second hand store and immediately bought it. It's wonderful for eating out at restaurants, friends houses, etc... wherever you *don't* want to have to haul your own highchair! It only takes a minute to hook it up to the table, and it is very sturdy. The fabric seat and back cover comes off for easy washing.
Our son is 4 months old, 16lb and 26 inches tall, and the chair is only slightly large for him. We only have to use one blanket to prop him up. He can't sit up on his own yet but this chair holds him up very well. While I find this to be helpful now, I can't imagine him fitting into the chair for much longer, maybe another 3-4 months. Of course, by that time it won't matter because he will be sitting on his own and a restaurant highchair will work fine.
All in all, if your child is growing as fast as mine, I'd stick to the second-hand store to buy this chair. If you have a more petite babe, though, this would be a great, long-term investment.
