Product Rating:
Pros: Compact, easy to store, versatile - infant feeding, high chair and booster seat! Well designed!
Cons: Tray is positioned a bit too high
The Bottom Line: Great chair which can be used from infant to young child. Sturdy base, easy to store, reclines, and seat height adjusts. I LOVE this high chair.
We do NOT have an eat in kitchen so when shopping for a high chair we had to consider mobility and storage. The other point was aesthetics. Since this high chair would be stored/used in our dining room I wanted one which was fairly attractive. We also wanted a chair with a small 'foot print'. The Chicco Deluxe High Chair fit the bill PLUS it had other features which made it the perfect choice for us.
This high chair comes completely assembled which is an added bonus. This high chair has a steel frame which makes the chair very strong. The front legs are connected by a base which goes along the front of the chair. Similarly the rear legs are also connected in the same fashion. This gives the chair amazing stability without having to be extra wide. The base has nylon rollers which allows you to move the chair easily. There are also two wheel locks on the back legs which lock the chair in place and prevent it rolling when your child is the chair. The wheel locks are easily deployed by stepping on or releasing with your foot.
The high chair seat is molded plastic and is covered by a generously padded seat cover. The seat cover is a heavy vinyl and has not cracked or ripped and I have been using this chair for over a year now. The seat cover came in several choices of colour and pattern. We chose a navy cover with small white flowers. It doesn't scream nursery but fits in with our dining room decor.
When considering a high chair the ability to clean the chair is always an issue. The seat cushion which extends over the whole chair is one piece so I have found it easily to wash up after meals. It also snaps off of the molded plastic seat so one can clean up any food which happens to get behind the cushion.
Included with this model of high chair is an infant seat insert. This allowed me to start using this chair when my son was an infant. The seat also reclines in three positions, upright, half-recline (good for infant feeding), or completely reclined. I know, sleeping in a high chair is not the first choice BUT if you child does fall asleep then one can recline the chair and allow them to nap. The recline release is at the back of the chair and is an easy one-hand operation.
The molded plastic tray has a built in cup holder. It also has a one hand lever underneath the tray which allows you to put the tray on or off the chair with little effort. I like the fact that the tray comes off the chair as I can wash it up in the sink. When not in use you can store the tray by clipping it to the hooks on the back legs of the high chair. The tray has an edge which contains spills. My one negative comment is the tray height which I think is just a bit too high. My child is 18months old and instead of sitting just above waist level it sits at about mid-chest level. It certainly doesn't prevent him from feeding himself but I have used other chairs with lower trays and I think they are better positioned for self feeders.
The chair height is also adjustable. This is useful as it allows the chair to be used as a booster seat at a regular table. The adjustments are done by pressing two red buttons at the side of the chair which lowers or raises the seat.
The five point harness is adjustable at two heights. It is made of nylon and has an easy to use fastener but is child proof!
Overall, I have been very pleased with the Chicco Mamma Deluxe high chair. It is great value for money as it can be used as an infant feeding chair, high chair and then booster chair. It is stable, easy to clean, fairly compact, attractive and rolls and folds for easy storage.
