| protoguy's Full Review: Cirque du Soleil - La Nouba |
Cirque Du Soleil - La Nouba is a tremendous, exhilarating feast for the eyes and ears. From the moment the lights come up and the first characters meander onstage to the last cymbal crash, the assault on your senses continues, almost unabated. The philosophy of Cirque Du Soleil - La Nouba is the same philosphy throughout their pantheon of shows - hope, ambition, joy. I defy anyone who sees this show to leave without feeling these things swelling in their chests.
I was able to see this show for free, avoiding the frightening $65+ price tag. I'd always heard that it was worth every penny, but the thought of shelling out so much for a two hour show was a bit much for my frugal mind to bear. I have to say that those people were right. It is worth every penny. Think of it as a week's vacation wrapped in a 2 hour show. Not only will you have memories that will last you a lifetime, memories of wonder and brilliance and light, but you will leave the show feeling young and vibrant, like you could conquer any obstacle. The message of hope and dreams flows throughout the show itself, in imagery and song, but it's the feats of amazing daring and creativity that actually leave you with that feeling, more than the message itself.
The stage at their Downtown Disney, Westside location is large and there really is not a bad seat in the house. We sat very near the last row and in my opinion these might have been the best seats! Only if we had been closer to the center would the seats have been better. The acoustics in the house are excellent, every note clear and sharp.
This show relies heavily on acrobatics and does not fail to soar here. There are hundreds of characters running around, balancing on chairs, swinging from trapezes, dancing on high wire, cycling around and flying through the air. One of the highlights of the is the trampoline performers, bouncing up the sides of buildings to the beat of the raucous and excellent music, which is played by a live orchestra at the front of the stage. Another excellent feature is the aerial ballet in silk performers flying across the stage and tumbling down, climbing up long trails of silk suspended from the rigging. Beautiful and lyrical, these performers are truly amazing.
The darlings of the show are undoubtedly the four tiny little Chinese girls who tumble and juggle large spools upon thin threads of rope on sticks. Resembling the juggling spool I had as a child, that's where the similarity ends. The things these lithe little girls could do with them was truly astounding. So young and supple, the way they could bend their bodies while tossing and catching the spools was awe-inspiring.
Cirque Du Soleil - La Nouba is an excellent show, well worth the price of admission and a must-see for visitors to the Orlando area. Located near Walt Disney World, actually on Disney property at Downtown Disney, Westside, Cirque Du Soleil is located on the west side of Disney's gigantic shopping and entertainment venue.
