| mommy2jesse's Full Review: Clairol Infusium 23 Original Leave In Treatment fo... |
I have very fine, thin hair that, unfortunately, is oily. When using a traditional conditioner, my hair looks dirty after only a few hours. This has caused much frustration for me. I had done hair for several years before "retiring" to be a stay-at-home mother to my son. My years of experience prompted me to start using a leave-in conditioner to help rectify the difficulties for my hair.
When someone has particularly fine hair, and oily scalp, a traditional conditioner weighs hair down, making it appear as though hair is dirtier than it really is. The best option is a light-weight, spray on, leave-in conditioner. It can help moisturize the hair and reduce tangles without weighing hair down.
Since I do have particularly fine hair I opted for the Maximum Body Formula of Clairol Infusium 23. I hoped that it would be even more light-weight and help increase body. I was disappointed that it seemed to be the same consistency as any other leave-in conditioner I had either used for myself or used on clients. The aroma is inoffensive, but not extraordinary. My first evaluation upon using it is that it seemed as though it was the average, run-of-the-mill leave-in conditioner. The best reason for choosing it, since it was not above my standards, was that it is less expensive that salon brand products.
Following the written instructions, I shampooed my hair as normal and towel dried it to where my hair was not dripping. I sprayed a generous amount onto my scalp and worked it to my ends. I finger-combed my hair to help evenly distribute the product, then used a wide-tooth comb to detangle my hair. I was pleased that I did not have a sticky feeling left on my scalp or on my ends. The sticky feeling left on hair or on the scalp is the result of lower quality products. Often "fillers" are used to dilute the formula. These fillers are not damaging to hair or to the scalp, but they can leave an uncomfortable feeling, or unattractive look to the hair when completely dried.
I blow-dried and styled my hair as normal and was pleased with the end result, but not overwhelmed. I continued to use Clairol Infusium 23 Maximum Body Formula for several weeks only because it was there and it did not further damage my hair.
Any claims that this conditioner, or any product, can reduce split ends, or help increase the health of one's hair and/or scalp are false. Do not fall victim to empty promises. The only way to reduce damage is to get rid of the damage. You cannot use a product to reduce split ends. You must cut them off. You cannot use a product to reduce damage caused by treatments (perming, coloring, etc.) you can only continue to moisturize your hair and protect it as best you can. Clairol Infusium 23 cannot cure hair woes. It can moisturize and help reduce tangles. It can make hair seem more healthy by not weighing it down as traditional conditioners do.
My overall impression of Clairol Infusium 23 Maximum Body formula is neither good nor bad: just average. It did not damage my hair further, but it did not turn out to be a miraculous remedy to my bad-hair woes. It did detangle my hair and it did reduce the "oily" look I suffer from traditional conditioners weighing it down. It was not expensive and was readily available at drugstores, grocery stores and super-centers. I probably will continue to use Clairol Infusium 23 Maximum Body Formula, only because I would prefer not to spend the extra money on salon brands.
