| zapbot's Full Review: Lexmark Jet 3200 InkJet Printer |
I've been a professional computer technician for over thirty years. Over half of those with NASA Mission Control at Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas. I've been from the old burn in weather FAX machines to some magical type printers (government owned) not even available to the public or business sectors yet.
I upgraded from the well worn out Lexmark 2050 to the Lexmark 3200 in hopes of getting a much faster machine than I've got. I should have read the technical information better. The quality of print of the 3200 is actually very high quality; however, if you print 500 - 1000 pages a day, this isn't the machine you want. Why?
Your paper load is only 100 sheets at a time, and that amount may cause multiple page ejections.
The paper exit has no paper catching mechanism. There is a pull out platform, but it will only hold a few pages before they begin to slide off to the floor. I put a box off the edge of my printer table to catch my pages.
It is a little big, which requires me to use more dedicated working space for it than I'd like, but I also need the space to put my paper catching box.
Most epinion reviewers of this printer seem to indicate the ink cartridges last an acceptable amount of time. I find they exhaust rather quickly; however, I refill them myself for only pennies, so the higher cost of the cartridges don't bother me.
Just a note here: I supplied another user of the Lexmark 3200 (not an epinions.com member) with the type and source of my ink, and he had some type of problem with it. I paid a small settlement to appease him; therefore I don't pass the information on to others any more. Sorry. I've had no problems with it, and the manufacturer does resell cheaper refilled cartridges, but I'd hate to give others any pain. Thanks for understanding if I don't respond to the e-mail inquiries (over 700 so far to date).
Back to the Lexmark 3200. For everyday home use I say it passes; although a bit slow for my tastes. If you have heavy high quality text printing to do, like instruction manuals, I'd suggest you search out a few other types before settling on the 3200. I'm a loyal IBM/Lexmark customer, and I will keep the 3200 I have, but it will take over my e-mail printing, while I go for a bit higher priced, but faster, printer that is capable of matching the Lexmark 3200 high quality printing. Hope I've helped.
Another note: Please, don't forget to feed our kids at www.thehungersite.com and www.freedonation.com... Thanks!
