| cmaw63's Full Review: Comfort Inn Collinsville |
The Comfort Inn in Collinsville, IL is easy to get to, even for the directional/map challenged, like me. It's located off I-55 & I-70, 12 miles east of Saint Louis, MO.
It's a great alternative to staying in St. Louis and cheaper, too!
Check-in was quite easy. I had made online reservations at the Comfort Inn website a month prior to my stay. When I got to the front desk, I stated my name and that I had reservations and within minutes I was on my way to my room. I had requested a Large room with 2 double beds and that's what I got. On the way to my room I noticed on the outside of all room doors there are plaques indicating whether the room is smoking or non-smoking. Thought that was a nice touch, since someone who was allergic to/didn't like smoke would know to not even enter if the plaque indicated a smoking room.
Rooms available are standard double or king, large double or king, king suite and king suite with whirlpool bath.
3 of us stayed in a large double room. When they say large they mean it! In this room we had 2 beds, table and 2 chairs, a couch, dresser, 2 night stands and a side table that held the coffee pot & coffee. All of this and the 3 of us never even came close to bumping into each other. We had a smoking room, yet upon entry we didn't so much as catch a whiff of anything except what had been used to clean it. (furniture polish, maybe?) The maid didn't just go in and do a few swipes here and there with it either...the room was very clean.
The beds were firm and comfortable and had good pillows. Not those flat pancake pillows that seem to be a favorite of most hotels.
There was a medium sized closet that had an ironing board and iron. (yeah right, I'm on vacation).
Nice size tv (approx. 27") with cable channels and in-room heating/air conditioning were, also, points in the hotels favor.
The free local calls were nice as we used it to have pizza delivered to our room. There is a list of which restaurants will deliver to your room for no extra charge, available next to the phone.
The bathroom was large & clean, also. The sink is in the bathroom along with the toilet and shower/bathtub. There were plenty of towels and washclothes for the 3 of us and the shower had good pressure and stayed hot. The bathroom did not have the lighting it should, tho, so we had to do our make-up out in the main room. In fact, once you got into the shower and closed the curtain it was downright dark.
The swimming pool is located indoors and you need your room key for entry. It is a nice sized pool with steps leading down into the shallow part. There is a deep end, so make sure you keep an eye on anyone large or small that may have trouble swimming. This pool isn't heated and the water was quite chilly until you became used to it. It was well maintained and the area around it clean. There is a jacuzzi off to one side, but was unable to take advantage of it as there were 2 couples using it while we were in that area. It must be nice, because they weren't getting out any time soon. Side note: One of the couples were newlyweds, the 2nd couple that came later and joined them in the jacuzzi had been married for 50 years. Their conversations were wonderful to overhear.
The lobby area had free coffee and juices at all hours. One of the areas in this spacious lobby had a golf putting green game & foosball for adults and a small play area with toys for children. There were tables & chairs and other seating thru-out the lobby to just sit and relax.
Other amenities that we didn't take advantage of include, In-room wireless internet, free continental breakfast (I never seem to be able to make it to those), Exercise room, newspaper delivered to room (mon-fri), copy & fax machines for guest use and banquet/meeting rooms.
Check-out was just as easy as checking in. I presented the card keys to the desk clerk and was signing the reciept in no time. She wanted to know if our stay was pleasant and when I told her yes, she replied "That's great, but if you think of anything later that would've made it even better, don't hesitate to call and let us know." Ummmmmmm...ok, how about making George Clooney available next time I'm in town?
We paid $89.95+tax for a Sunday night stay. If there had only been two of us (the 3rd person was a last minute addition) we would've stayed in a king suite/whirlpool for only $103.50. The standard rooms go for $71.95/night
