| AaronC's Full Review: Compaq Aero 1500 |
I'm very happy with the Compaq Aero 1530. I really enjoy the small size and weight. I owned a Phillips Nino (B&W) briefly, but was very unhappy with it's weight and overall size.
The Aero 1530 has a lot of things going for it. Many people find that the Windows CE environment gets in their way. I personally don't find that to be the case. Compaq provided the four common features as easy access buttons along the bottom of the unit, so you aren't forced to hunt through the "Start" menu.
The price is hard to beat considering the extras that come with the unit. 16 MB of RAM, one docking station, one serial port connection cable, a car adaptor for recharging, Outlook 2000, and ActiveSync 3.0. If you've ever used an older version of ActiveSync from Microsoft, you likely experienced unnecessary pain. With the 3.0 release of the sync. software, it's finally easy to get your PDA to connect and keep everything connected.
The back-light on the unit is very helpful. There are two modes -- one normal and one inverse. You'll find the ability to choose from the two modes helpful depending on lighting conditions.
Unlike the "Palm" units, the handwriting system on this unit doesn't always take up valuable space. With a simple click in the system tray, you can make the Jot handwriting system visible easily, or switch to a small keyboard. If you forget how to make a particular Jot character, help is only a couple of clicks away.
In all, this is a great unit. If you're thinking about jumping into the "Palm" bandwagon, consider this unit first.
Highly recommended.
