Nice review, interesting comments (Reply to this comment)
by royfreeman
I am Roy Freeman, son of Don Freeman. I grew up with his books. It might interest you to know that Don never made any special notice or comments that Lisa and her mother were not white. They were simply Lisa and her mother. I never even registered that this was at the time something new for a popular children's book. That was who Don was. For more information you might look at the website I made for my father, www.donfreeman.info. Thanks again for your personal and honest review.

Really enjoyed reading your review. This was among my most favorite books when I was little. When my own kids were little, I would read them my old copy which they loved just as much.
Thanks for the memories :)

Phil, what a lovely review for such a charming and sweet book. You did such a wonderful job that I'm going to have to go out and get it for myself! 10 gold stars for you! :-)

....review Phil! I enjoyed reading it so much and am wondering how I had forgotten about this great book. Putting it on hold at the library right now....and then I know I need to purchase it too. :)
The small town I live in isn't very diverse, so a book with children that are different from what my daycare children see everyday is a very welcome addition to my shelves.
Hey, how about more children's book reviews???...You're great at it! .....Make it a great day.....kath

Loved Corduroy... (Reply to this comment)

Phil,
Great review, as always.
This is one of the books that my kids would have me read to them over and over and over again (you would think I would know it by heart now). Unfortunately, at 11 and 13 years old, they no longer want to hear about Corduroy - they've moved up to Call of Duty, Search and Destroy, guess I will have to wait for those grand children to come along in 20 years :)

Hello Terrie,
Thanks for the information about the writer/artist. How wrong I was. One thing that I have found so exciting about Epinions is that when I write a review, I learn even more than what my first personal experience gives me with a product, destination or service. It's through further research and the good information from Epinionators like you that I get so much more additional information.
Thanks for sharing some good detail.

Corduroy and Company (Reply to this comment)

Hi,
I really enjoyed your review. Corduroy has been a favorite of mine since my children were small in the 70s. Don Freeman was a Caucasian man. I have an anthology edition that contains many of his books called Corduroy and Company and it has a few photographs of Freeman in it.

I remember having this book as a child and also in the preschool classroom that I used to teach in. The children always loved this story.
This was a great review Phil. I'm sure this book will be around for many years to come.
