| Doc_Holliday's Full Review: Craftsman 3.5 Amp Auto-Scrolling Sabre Saw 17232 |
I had been looking for a decent Jig Saw for some time now, I was in Sears and found this model jig saw as a "special purchase" and got a hard case and a couple of blades with it. The "auto scroll" option is nice for making fine adjustments but does seem to have a few minor draw backs. If you are not careful and make sure the lock is completely engaged you will notice the blade tends to want to wander. The unit is a little more bulky than other models, but this is due to the extended nose height for the auto scroll option. I also found the small clear plastic shroud that covers the blade holder to be somewhat of a nusance to work around when trying to tighten a blade. I like the dust collection port that is on the back of the saw that you can attatch a shop vac to or a saw dust collection hose to, it helps in keeping your work area clean. The jig saw is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. This saw seems to be ideal for the general home owner that is looking for a dependable jig saw and one that will last, I have my doubts that it would last long under heavy every day contractor use though. If you are like me, and use it once or twice a week I feel it will provide you with many years of happy service. It comes with a small fence that attaches to the side to help maintain a straight line cut. The base also has an adjustment that you can set to cut at an angle.
