Crayola has long been an appreciated brand of art supplies for classroom and at home use. The Crayola 20 Ct. Super Tips Washable Markers is one of the basic sets that I have purchased several times. These markers are non-toxic, considered washable, they're odor-free, and reasonably priced. I recommend this set for those wanting a versatile marker package. If you want more color options, I recommend the 50 ct. set.
Crayola 20 Ct. Super Tips Washable Markers
The markers in this set are approximately 6 ½ long. The barrels of the markers are white. The cap, 2 ¾, reflects the actual marker color, as does an insert on the end of the barrel. Speaking of the cap, it is easy for children to remove. When removed the cap can be snapped onto the barrel end, however this process requires fine motor skill. Most kids will just plop the lid onto the table. Children who are able to hold a regular size crayon or pencil, will be able to comfortable color with these. It is highly likely that younger children will be more comfortable with a chubbier barrel.
The tips of these markers offer a thick side for larger lines or coloring bigger areas, and the tip narrows, providing a writing or outlining opiton. Although the tip of these markers provide a thin line, they must not be mistaken for ultra-fine. If the artist is seeking markers that offer fine tips, I suggest the Pentel Fine Point Color Pen Set or the Crayola Fine Line Markers.
The Crayola 20 Ct. Super Tips Washable Markers sets include an acceptable assortment of colors: yellows, orange, peach, browns, black, greens, blues, purples, grey, reds and pinks. There are plenty of shade varieties for elementary art projects. These markers are packaged in a reusable vinyl pouch, albeit slightly flimsy. More times than not these markers get placed into a plastic school type of box or a cup.
Crayola states that the markers in this package are non-toxic and conform to ASTM D-4236. These washable markers are supposed to easily wash from skin and most children's clothing. Those familiar with washable markers realize repeated washings might be required. Such is the case for skin contact with this set. Yes, the markings will eventually wash off, and a significant amount comes off with soap and water. But remnants of color are often left on skin following initial washing.
In case of contact with clothing, directions on the product package suggests that clothing should be promptly washed in hot wash cycle, avoiding use of pre-wash or bleach. Instructions further state that repeated laundering may be required.
Currently we have several of these marker sets at the child care center. The teachers enjoy using them for certain art projects and decorating daily take home reports.
Although the preschoolers at the center like using these markers, it is important to mention that if too much pressure is placed onto the tips, they might break or sink into the barrel. Also, as mentioned, the caps are difficult for young children to snap onto the barrel end.
I do feel that the Crayola 20 Ct. Super Tips Washable Markers are above-average and I recommend them for purchase. It is my experience that this set is most appreciated by those ages four and above.
