| geo111's Full Review: Creative Technology 3D Blaster Riva TNT2 Ultra, (3... |
I remember when computers came with the generic company video card and you never bothered upgrading it. My 2 meg generic card lasted forever. Today, with games becoming exponentially more sophisticated, the need for a high powered card is great.
I was browsing online at a few cards and decided on Creative Labs Ultra TNT2, with AGP bus and a tv out. I purchased this card in March for $115 off of Ebay (Suggested retail of $199). This card has allowed me to run games more smoothly than I ever could imagine. These games include Half Life and Quake III, just to mention a few. Another great feature of this card is its tv out port. This enables you to connect your computer to your television (unless you have a 21 inch monitor, then there is no point!) and watch videos or dvd's on a much larger screen. This card helped me get a small entertainment center in my living room without expecting it.
I also want to mention the prebundled software, 3Deep and Colorific. These two programs allow you to tweak your monitor settings to get the best gaming experience. This is an important fine tuning many people neglect.
The only drawback I can realize for this card is that there are much better accelerators coming out as I write this article. If you are willing to spend some extra money on a card, you are better off buying a pricier card, such as the new Voodoo cards coming out or the
Creative Labs 3D Blaster Annihilator (GeForce technology by NVidia). On the other hand, if you are looking to save a few bucks, definitely consider purchasing this video card, you will not be disappointed.
