| ugachaka's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad Jukebox (20 GB) MP3 Play... |
I've purchased many products from Creative, and they're frankly all pretty smashing, like the Audigy Platinum. Now I'm proud to add their latest MP3 player to my fold.
Here's the breakdown, part by part:
OS: Pretty responsive, although I had some problems with the playlist, and would love to see more sorting options. Still, no major problems here.
Buttons: Tactile, works like a dream. Some of the buttons are a little small, though, and you most probably won't be able to operate this player one-handed, unless your hands are big.
Space (physical): Ever so slightly smaller than your average CD player, and will fit any standard pouch. Perfect, considering the 20GB drive. Which leads us to......
Space (storage): 20GB is insanely huge. You could just pump songs in without ever deleting them. I doubt you'd run out of space within a year or so...... The problem with so much space, however, is that you tend to get lost in the inane amount of songs you have stored. This, to me, means I have too large a choice, which is rather sad for indecisive little me. Still, to each his own, and I certainly can't fault Creative for the huge hard drive. Kudos.
After-sales: For the record, I've never had any problems with Creative's after-sales. Never. Still waiting to see if my Jukebox will screw up...
Weight: Just like your standard CD player, except mayhaps a tad on the heavy side. But only a little.
Headphones: To each his own, but I much prefer the Sony headphones you can get anywhere to the stock supplied stuff you get here. This is an area that could be improved, but I'm sure it's not Creative's main focus.
Battery life: Creative claims up to 22 hours, but we all know that kind of claim is a load of bull. A better estimate would be about 7 hours or less.
Sound quality: As long as it's not your lousy bitrate for your songs that's causing noise, the player has no problems here, with treble coming in clear. Bass could be a little stronger, though. Creative might want to copy the Mega-Bass system from Sony or something. Because of no moving parts, there is no skipping no matter whether you're jogging or doing whatever.
So, all in all, how's it? Great. Creative's main selling point here is the insane 20GB, and you can't fault them there, while the rest of the player's attributes are up to the high standard that Creative has always set in sound systems and related products.
I would recommend this player to all and sundry who like music. MP3 looks set to destroy .cda as the prevailing format of music, and this is a good buy to be able to keep your music with you as you go everywhere.
