Overall, the Nomad 64 is a decent product, however it has a few flaws it it that seem sort of dumb and could have easily been fixed. First of all, the random play feature doesn't work well at all. It always starts with track 1 and will only play in random order if you don't touch it - advancing to the next or previous tracks will do just that, go to the next or previous track in sequential order. It also repeats tracks before completing the playlist. No support for long filenames, but at least it has id3 tag support. In hindsight, they really should have at least added an auto-tagger in the software that transfers the files to the player, in the case of missing id3 tags. 64MB of storage is nice, but it's really 32MB of internal RAM and 32MB on the card. This means that if you have 2MB free on each, the best you can do is 2 2MB files, not 1 4MB file, so you may find yourself doing a lot of math in your head trying to figure out how to squeeze in just one more song. No USB support in this model, and no pass-thru connector for the parallel port is a bit of a hassle, but not a big deal.
Despite these shortcomings however, it is still a decent product. Long battery life, good sound quality and volume, and the price is right. You should be able to find this older modem for around $150 or less if you look around.
