| Co2112's Full Review: Creative Technology Sound Blaster® Live! Plat... |
I have had my Creative Labs Sound Blaster LIVE! X-Gamer almost a year now and I have to tell you that it's one of the best sound cards out there. The only reason I bought it was because I received a pair of Altec Lansing speakers. So I wanted to have a good source for my speakers.
I am currently running the sound card on a 366 celeron with Windows 98. I have a lot of games and an added bonus for purchasing the X-Gamer (XG) was that it came with a three games. I received Thief Need For Speed, and Decent all of which are really fun games. The XG brings games to life. With all the options for tweaking different pre-set sounds the possibilities are literally endless. It comes with plenty of software for everything you need, from an MP3 player to Easy Speak type program.
It has front and rear speaker outputs, line in, digital line in (haven't used), microphone input and even a MIDI input. The card has different sounds presets for 2 speaker or 4 speaker set ups. You can even set up your two speaker set ups with monitor mounted, desk mount or pc based mount set ups. The 4 speaker set up is truly a surround sound effect. I used my older pc speaker with some home made speaker stands and I was truly drawn into the sound. I have a DVD-Rom drive and it was almost better than my home surround set up.
If you enjoy music this card will more than wet your appetite, it will flood it with flavorful melodies. Sound pre-sets start with an Alley echoy sound to a Underwater(weird). My favorite for MP3 is the Car Stereo 4 speaker set up, and for a live effect I use the Arena effect with 4 speakers set up. If you have a live album its unbelievable more rich true sound.
Last but not least, the best thing this card can offer. Price. It uses the same engine as the most expensive Creative Sound Blaster card (at the time of purchase). It offers an auto update feature to upgrade the card from the internet. It came with three games. If you have high quality speakers, help them get the most out of what they can do and buy this card. I have seen it for as low as $69. If the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! - X Gamer isn't on top of your Xmas list this holiday season than your not hearing me.
