pepp68's Full Review: Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Coffee Maker
Introduction: Last year I bought a Delonghi Coffee Maker from Target the wife liked it for its looks and features what a huge mistake. I never thought there was such a thing as a bad cup of coffee or coffee maker that makes you want to stop by Dunkin Donuts to make you even later for work. After the first week we were both noticing the taste was pretty bad. We hung in there switching to paper filters and filtering water with a very little improvement. I was hesitant to run right out and buy another one. For once I started using the Flavored creamer daily, french vanilla seemed to cover and mask the taste pretty good however I felt like I was drinking a warm milkshake and pixy stick. One day last month I stopped by Dunkin Donuts and refilled my stale coffee mug and decided that it was time to make a switch. After some intense research online I decided on the Brew Station DCC-1200 and found it at Sam Club for $70.
As soon as I got home I carefully removed the packaging (if this didn't taste good I was taking it back) and read through the manual which had some good information on brewing a perfect cup of Joe. Setup was piece of cake. The first thing I notice was the carafe actually poured perfectly and I did not have any water to clean up. My first cup from the Brew Station I used the 1-4cup option to double the heating in the water tank. The smell and actual sound of steam and brewing process immediately got me excited, my previous one mostly sounded like water dripping from the faucet and hissed alittle at the end. The Brew Station starts steaming, hissing and dripping within the first minute. I poured my first cup and took a sip "black", it was good and fresh. I added my cream and sugar as I like it (no flavored creamer this time) and Wow great cup of Coffee! Two weeks later and I love this coffee maker. I make 7-8 cups in the morning for two travel mugs and always use the 1-4cup brewing feature.
Programing: Programming of this coffee maker I would rate 10 out of 10 for ease my wife even said "Thats it !" Simplest Coffee maker to program even to the point we actually now use the program feature and catch a couple more minutes of snooze and wake to smell of fresh brewed coffee.
Display: When will they learn little display hard to see make it bigger and light up please 6 out of 10.
Brewing Time: Compared to the Delonghi which was extremely slow this is pretty good not a hare but not a Bunn or single single server either 8 out of 10.
Features: Very easy to use and has the all the features I needed with a couple bonuses. The maker has a Self Clean Mode which tells you when the sprayer is getting calcified and its time to clean it out. The maker Comes with coffee scoop and a Gold Permenant Filter which I have not tested only using paper right now. Also has a Charcoal Water Filter built in (Replacement and use recommended but not required with good tap or filtered water, if not replace every 60 days) filter annual cost about $10 a year not that bad). 3 Year Warranty, who ever heard of such a thing on a coffee maker! 10 out of 10 for its features.
Looks: Looks good on the counter matches our appliances with the stainless steel nice retro feel, tall but fits under cabinets just fine when not brewing. I was willing to buy a pink and neon one when I picked this up as long as brewed a good cup of coffee looks not a deciding factor in purchase decision. Added bonus for getting both 10 out of 10.
Taste: 9 out of 10. This makes the best tasting coffee of any home drip coffee maker I have ever owned or tasted at family or friends. My friend owns a Tassimo and that thing makes a great cup of coffee to but the whole disc thing did not appeal to me or my lifestyle. Dunkin Donuts in the morning and Caribou Coffee in the evenings still are a treat but for the first time in a while I will make a home brew with the Brew Station to enjoy an after dinner cup, or offer up a cup of coffee to my guests instead of driving to Caribou or Starbucks and dropping a tank of gas on the counter.
Final Thought: Simply I have not owned or found a better making or tasting Drip Coffee Maker ! It looks great, taste wonderfull, with no mess as it pours perfectly, this is the real deal however quality comes with a price which is lower than some but higher than most.
