| SusanARI's Full Review: Dali |
I love Dali! It's a Spanish restaurant in Somerville, Massachusetts and it's as authentic as you can get.
It's very popular and you'll most definitely have to wait for a table, but it's well worth it. And waiting is part of the fun here. You can head right to the bar and sip sangria and snack on tapas until your turn comes up. I'm actually not a huge fan of sangria but I like the one that is served here. Their sangria has lots of fruit floating around but is not too sweet, unlike some that I've tried in other Spanish restaurants.
I like going to Dali with a group of people so that we can order a bunch of different tapas plates and taste a little of each.
They have a very good selection of tapas - both hot and cold. And in addition to the regular tapas menu have a few new ones added as a special each month. They range in price from around 5 to 8 dollars. Some of my favorites are Pulpo a la Vinagreta (Octopus Vinaigrette), Gambas Al Ajillo (VERY garlicky shrimp), and Lomito Al Cabrales (Pork Tenderloin with goat cheese and mushrooms). And they also have the Tortilla Espanola (egg and potato omelette) and the Chorizo (grilled Spanish sausage) which more people are familiar with.
For dinner entrees, of course they have Paella, as any Spanish restaurant would. And they have both the Valenciana and the seafood version of this dish. I like to go with something a little different though, like the Faisan a la Alcantara which is braised pheasant wrapped in Serrano ham with a mushroom stuffing. And the braised rabbit is to die for also. Dinner prices range from $17 to $22.
Don't hesitate to count on the waiters for suggestions. This restaurant has a waitstaff that is very knowledgeable in all areas ranging from food preparation to recommending a wine to go with your meal. The service here is excellent!
Speaking of wines, they have an extensive list of Spanish wines ranging in price from $20 to $100 and everything in between. You'll also find a very good selection of Port wines.
I love the atmosphere here. It's very lively and the background music is a combination of Spanish and Latin music.
Dali is located a good 50 miles away from where I live in Rhode Island. And I do have Spanish restaurants closer to home. But Dali is well worth the trip. I just wish it was open for lunch. It is only open for dinner.
