| mrhonda's Full Review: Days Inn & Suites - Historic Annapolis |
Several weeks ago, I took a little one night trip to Annapolis with some colleagues for a meeting. We were able to get a group rate at the Days Inn and Suites for the night. All together, we ended up booking 10 rooms with 3 people to a room at a rate of $90 for the night, which is really good considering other hotels in the area like the Hampton Inn and the Country Inn and Suites wanted to charge as high as $175.
The Days Inn and Suites is located on Riva Road in Annapolis very close to Route 50. To access it from Route 50, take exit 22 and proceed left on to Riva Road. Continue through three traffic lights and then the hotel will be on your right. We arrived at night and the first thing I saw was the Days Inn sign and I said to the people in the car with me "I see the sun!!!" The Days Inn is located at 2451 Riva Road. It is within a mile of Historic Downtown Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy and is within a 15 minute drive from Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI).
I always like to make my hotel reviews like a little tour, so lets start in the front. The Days Inn is a long grey two story building with a peeked roof. It has a drive up entrance for easy loading and unloading, and has plenty of free parking located close to the doors. When you enter the lobby, one of the things that I thought was kind of neat was the huge aquarium filled with exotic fish. I never imagined there would be anything like that in a small hotel. While our group leader was getting us checked-in, some of the others and I just stood there admiring the aquarium. Other than that, the lobby is a typical non-descript hotel lobby that is nothing overly fancy and very easy on the eye. The lobby also has a small dinning room attached with tables and sets of 4 chairs where breakfast is served every morning. More about this later...
Lets take a look at the rooms. The Days Inn and Suites has 68 guest rooms that I understand are newly renovated. All rooms include free deluxe cable with HBO and Cinemax. There are several room choices including Business Suites, Whirlpool Suites, Standard King rooms, and Standard Two Queen rooms which is what I had.
The Standard Two Queen room is very basic with two beds and a night stand, a dresser with a TV on top, an extremely SMALL window, a desk and chair, small closet space with hangers, and a bathroom with shower and tub combo. Unlike many hotels I've been in recently where they appear to be TIGHTENING THINGS UP, this hotel had plenty of soap, shampoo, and towels stocked in the bathroom. The beds were comfortable, however the pillows WERE NOT! These, by far, had to be the most uncomfortable hotel pillows I have ever slept on in all of my travels. My head sank so far into them that it was at the level of the mattress and I might as well have not had a pillow at all. I tried stacking two pillows on top of each other but that was still extremely uncomfortable. Luckily, this was really the only gripe I had with the place. My buddy that stayed in the same room as me agrees with me about the pillows.
The next morning we woke up and went downstairs for breakfast. I rather enjoyed the breakfast here, considering it was free. There was coffee and tea, apple juice, orange juice, and milk. There were several cereal choices, yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins and doughnuts, eggs, toast, and waffles. It was quite a variety and I still feel like I'm leaving something out! There were also free copies of USA Today available in the lobby.
All together I had a nice stay at this hotel, and I really can't complain. It was nothing overly fancy, but we were only there for one night. If we had been staying longer, then we may have been more prone to go to the Sheraton or one of the other upper-class hotels. The pillows were probably more comfortable at the Hampton Inn or the Country Inn and Suites, but considering that this Hotel beat the others out in price by a landslide, I'd be willing to stay here again and save the money by traveling with my own pillow!
