A warm thank you to the category lead, megugrrl, for adding this restaurant to the database.
This is my second entry in the 3-fer write-off, open to anybody who writes and posts 3 VH epinions in one day and links to my member page which is the write-off headquarters.
While my wife and I were on our post-Christmas tour of Chicago restaurants, we looked for a Chinese restaurant in or near downtown Chicago. After surfing through the major Chicago online restaurant lists, I stumbled upon Dees Restaurant in the Lincoln Park upscale neighborhood.
It had a number of positive ratings from locals, and was billed as a szechwan-mandarin restaurant, using all fresh ingredients. It also had a new sushi bar, although we did not haxe any that evening.
On balance, we enjoyed ourselves, but not as much as the Millennium Park Grill, and we probably will not be going back.
The first negative was that the restaurant was not very accessible. There is a big step in front of the restaurant and it was tough to get my wifes wheelchair over it. We managed, with the help of the very nice valet guy, but it was still an issue. Inside, the aisles were a little cramped, but at early dinner, approximately 5:30 pm on a weekday, there werent many people there and we found a comfortable table and were seated.
We decided to share 3 entrees and bring the rest home, instead of buying two entrees with appetizers. We initially were given menus and water. Tea was supplied once we requested it, but it seemed like it wasnt a routine part of the meal. It also seemed like a big deal to get it refilled.
The entrees themselves were quite nice. We selected orange chicken, scallops and vegetables and Mongolian beef. The meats and scallops were done correctly, the portions, and the meat and scallop component of the portions were generous, although not huge and the vegetables were crisp and not overdone. The scallops were sea scallops. We left portions of each for the following day. The entrees were served with rice, which was also done correctly and was tasty.
The service was below adequate. It seemed like the waiter wasnt paying much attention to us even though there were few people in the restaurant. We were a little tight on time, and I didnt appreciate having to go looking for him in order to get the bill paid. Honestly, I expected better.
The bill in total was $69 for the three entrees with tax. This is on the high side, but not out of line for a restaurant in the area, even a Chinese restaurant. The service and the difficult accessibility make it unlikely that we will go back any time soon. However, the food was good enough so I can recommend it and therefore I give it 3 stars.
Thanks for reading. God bless!
