z2830than's Full Review: Delphi Roady XT XM Radio Receiver
About a month ago, I decided to upgrade my current Roady2 to the new and improved Roady XT. The main reasons why I wanted to do this is because of several reasons: The improved modulation range, The easier to use buttons, and other nice features such as auto scroll and new colors.
Once i purchased the unit and got it home, I noticed some other changes from that of the Roady2. One of the main things about the construction of the Roady XT is that it truly has a docking station attached. This means that you can detach the Roady XT and the 6V power and antenna can stay attached to the base station. Don't worry, though, this station is small and sleek and can blend nicely with the interior. However, a small drawback to this feature is that the Roady2 is not compatible. Not even the power plug fits with the Roady2.
As stated in earlier, the improvements that define the XT, such as its small size, improved range, and auto scroll, are definitely welcome changes. The thin design gives your interior a futuristic look, especially paired with some of the new available colors. My favorite is Ocean Blue. The range of modulation has improved enough that very rarely do I have a bleed through of other radio stations. Before, if I crossed a bridge on the Ohio River, it was guaranteed that I would get drowned out by some crazy classical music or college station.
By far the best improvement the Roady XT has to offer is that you can choose the whole frequency band from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz. This is a hundred times better than the 5 or 6 frequencies to choose from on the Roady2. In big cities, that just doesnt cut it. Delphi made sure this time that you don't get drowned out by interference and static.
Other small features include the easier to use push buttons and auto scroll, which can tell you the whole song. However, I dont get chance to look at the screen much since my eyes are on the road. However, I do have a couple of minor complaints on the accessories. My biggest complaint is the swivel that can be used if you dont want the clip mount blocking a vent. The adhesive isnt strong enough under warm conditions and the swivel doesnt have enough range to mount on the top dash.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Roady XT. I think Delphi did a great job of improving on a product that was pretty useful to start with.
