| mythicalc's Full Review: John C. Maxwell - Developing the Leader Within You... |
It is easy to decry the lack of leadership in our country. From the White House to the pulpit, the lack of leadership is killing us.
It is easy to point our collective finger at those that are supposed to be leaders by virtue of their office. We can wait endlessly to be led by the uninspired and noncommitted.
John Maxwell has provided an alternative. In an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand style, Maxwell has drawn upon his thirty-plus years of experience to help the reader discover the skills necessary to be a leader. He asserts that leadership can be learned and provides the course to travel.
Maxwell asserts that your success depends upon your ability to leader. He defines leadership as the power to influence others. He shows you what it takes to develop your influence in a positive way so others will follow you. He starts at the lowest level of leadership (position) and guides the reader to the place that they lead because of the respect that they have gained.
So many books on leadership in reality addresses management. Maxwell avoids that mistake. Instead, each chapter takes the reader to the next important element in becoming the leader that they were meant to be.
This is a book that benefits the company president, the pastor, and the parent. The process takes time, but it is one that can be traveled by any desiring to inspire and influence others.
