| hrisko's Full Review: Digisette DUO-64 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I bought this on a lark. It just seemed like with a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk I would never really need any additional music. But I like to hear the latest songs and it's a LOT of trouble to pick them out, rip them, put them on a single CD, burn them and add it to trunk changer. So I picked this little guy up for $60 and and for $40 dollars added 128Meg extra memory. Will hold about 4 albums full of music. I really like the fact that it will work as a self-contained MP3 player. I use it when I mow the lawn and it's also the perfect MP3 player for use on a motorcycle. I had planned on trying my Creative Nomad but the idea of mixing a laptop hard drive and the vibration of a bike gave me pause and I never did it. Battery life is exceptional, I usually get a little over 3 hours from a charge. I am looking to buy a 2d battery so I can keep one charging all the time. The software to add and remove MP3s is simple and intuitive. I know it came with a manual but I have yet to read that thing. It all seems similar to Creative Playcenter but a lot better.
Now the downside. The biggest is that my cassette player in the car has automatic music search. If it senses silence for more than 2 seconds it starts fast forwarding like crazy and, of course, the mp3 player responds as if I am intending to Fast forward, which means it skips a song or two. So I sometimes have to override my player and push play repeatedly at the end of every song which is a drag, but has nothing to do with the Duo. In fact, I just thought about it, and it has a "Hold" feature that I might be able to use that disables the onboards MP3 controls. That may work ... hmmm... anyway, so the biggest drawback is really my cassette player not the Duos fault.
I know cars don't usually come with cassette players these days but who cares. This will still make a great self-contained MP3 player for years to come. and with the memory being standard MMC I'll probably be using a 512 Meg stick in 3 months.
Too pricy at $100 for just the basic player. But a deal at $60 (because you can use the $40 to buy the extra memory). Throw away the little bud earpieces that come with it. They're useless. Just pull out any old set of headphones and you're ready to roll.
The biggest drawback I have
