| timdthomas's Full Review: Xerox DocuPrint M760 InkJet Printer |
With all the problems Xerox has been having lately with missing estimates, substantial drops in their stock price, and negative press, I hope that this printer will help turn around Xerox into a more profitable company, at least in the SOHO market.
All the reviews of the M750 probably apply to this printer as well. As far as I know, the only difference is that this printer is a bit faster than the 760, and a bit more expensive.
Just a caveat before my review: I am a Xerox employee, but I didn't work on this product.
I just received the M760 a couple days ago, and so far I'm very happy with it. I bought it to replace a HP660C, which was an ok printer but rather than spending the money to get new ink, for not a heck of a lot more I could get a better and much faster printer.
I mostly print in draft mode, usually to print technical articles out for offline reading. I was very surprised at how quickly this printer could print, especially in B&W mode! Since 90% of what I print falls into the draft B&W category, I was very happy. Its draft mode is much better than my old HP - my old HP looks like it barely spit out any ink in that mode, while my Xerox looks almost as good at the HP did in best mode.
I haven't done too much with color or photos yet. I started my annual Christmas newsletter and played around with printing in Express mode. It really does print fairly quickly, and with good image quality. I'll admit that I haven't printed in the best mode yet, but I'll be doing that for my final prints and will update this review then.
It does seem bigger than most of the competition. I haven't had a good look at the internals to see why it needs to be 20% bigger than most of the others in the same range. It also seems to be fairly forceful when printing - my desk shakes a lot which is a bit annoying.
The bypass tray in back would be nice when you need to print on special stock once or twice, but having the tray in back isn't convenient if you have the printer backed up against a wall.
PROS:
- fast, very good quality draft mode
- fast, very good quality express mode
CONS:
- seems a bit bigger than the competition
- bypass tray in back isn't real convenient, at least for how I have it sitting on my desk
- shakes my desk a lot when printing
Recommended:
Yes
