Pros: Inexpensive with quick responses to my questions; access to server command line.
Cons: Some problems with their servers being blacklisted by Comcast; annoyingly unfunny newsletters.
The Bottom Line: If you want cheap and reliable service from a long-time operator, Dreamhost is a good choice.

| jezma's Full Review: Dreamhost |
First, some background: I have been a Dreamhost customer for almost 8 years. My primary use is to host a couple of domains and forward email addresses. I also have a few personal web pages a couple of which are database driven.
For my modest needs, Dreamhost has proven fairly reliable and quite inexpensive. I can get access via ssh to a linux server command line and their web tools are quite extensive: php, perl, ruby, mysql, etc. Given my limited needs, their disk and bandwidth quotas have been more than sufficient.
When I have had questions and problems over the years their technical support team has been fairly quick to respond. Over the 8 years I have personally experienced very little extended downtime and, as far as I know, not lost any email.
A couple of years ago there was a problem with some of their mail servers being blacklisted by Comcast. I had given my father an email address at one of my domains hosted by Dreamhost. The email was forwarded to his Comcast account. The result of the blacklisting was that none of his email would be accepted by Comcast. There was lots of finger pointing by Dreamhost and Comcast, but the upshot was that my father had to stop using this email and revert to a straight comcast.net email.
I suspect that some Dreamhost users had been using their accounts to generate spam, but I cannot be sure.
My only other negative comment is that the monthly newsletters that Dreamhost sends out to all of their customers attempt to be funny but are cringingly unfunny. There is nothing more annoying than someone who thinks he is funny but is not.
