easy set pool (Reply to this comment)

i have had an easy set pool for 9 yrs now. the only thing i found is that your ground has to be perfectly level for your pool to fill properly. i did use lots of sand. the man putting it in for me was a carpenter, and he found it alot easier to level the ground with sand(after he had dug up alot of grass to make proper place for pool.
personally i find that the filter pumps on these pools should be a bit stronger, but all in all, the pool has been a god sent to us. ive gone from the 12 ft pool, to the 16 foot round pool. we love it.
as far as one other poster saying her 8 yr old son went over the top. fortunely he was ok, but it does state clearly NOT to lean on the sides of the pool, and another thing, i HAVE climbed over the top of mine without a ladder very easily and just a little water was released over the top.. naturally if you are leaning and pushing the top ring to get over, water will release, but again, it clearly states NOT to do this.
oh also, i leave my pool up during the winhter. i live in Mass and we do get lots of snow. i let the water out below the intake/outtake hoses... pour about 4 gallons of bleach in it(i dont spend my money on all kinds of winter chemicals) and cover it nice and tight, and "voila", its ready when you take the cover off the next season.
remember everyone thinking of getting one of these pools.
LEVEL GROUND is the key to everything. its got to be level.

the olther side of easy set pools (Reply to this comment)
by momsreallyold
I had an easy set pool that I set up every year without fail & without any trouble whatsoever.
fill the ring with air, start loading in the water and make sure as the water goes in that the bottom is wrinkle free. this I admit takes coordination of the kids who will use it and the parent [me] but every april[this is vegas] it went up with ease, and every October it was drained, cleaned and rolled up and put away for the next season hard use. all in all, over 20 kids used the thing, no holes, no accidents, no problems at all. we loved it and now the kids are grown up enough, we put in a portable spa and there is quiet enjoyment instead of squeals of excitement.
so, the easy set pool that caused trouble was the exception, not the rule and is an economical way to enjoy summer fun. as an aside, once you have completely filled an easy set after seeing it was going oval and was not round, you have screwed it. if you see it going all oval on you, you need to drain it asap and start over or ruin it permanently.

Loved ours (Reply to this comment)

Our 2 year old 12'x 30" pool was given to us by a neighbor that was moving. My family used it for another three years. We were told that it had a hole in the ring so we repaired that before first use. Every few days we added a little air (with a compressor) because of a leak we couldn't find but it was no big deal. We set it up on a level concrete RV slab with some old moving blankets under it for padding. It was a cinch to set up and fill even with no directions. The sides do bulge out but that is part of the design. The only time we had a problem with the water escaping over the rim, was when it was under inflated. Last summer, a neighbors' golden retreiver decided to come over and take an uninvited swim. Unfortunatly his claws made several punctures in the pool and rim. We patched as best we could and after a good cleaning, continued to use the pool for the rest of the season. Before tossing it, we cut the bottom out of it to use under the new one for extra ground protection. We saved the pump, hoses, and accessories and purchased a new 16'x 37" model this year. You can save money by purchasing just the pool on the Intex website (and any parts you might need.)
They come in a large variety of sizes and depths. Do take notice when buying one of these pools that the water level measurment is less then the height of the pool. I found the actual fill depth among the measurements provided on the site.
We'll set up the new one during spring break and post again if there are any problems with it.

easy set pool,,,,love it (Reply to this comment)

well i read your review JDinPA, i have to toally disagree with you on the pool. ive had one for 8 yrs and i couldnt be happier.
the first problem that i see you had is you thought you didnt have to use sand under the pool. well, no it dosent specifically say sand, but the most important thing about that pool is that it needs to definetly be on level ground. that is why your pool didnt rise properly. when i had a friend opf mine put my pool down, no it didnt take him 15 minutes like the video said, that i will agree with you. after all the ground is level though its a piece of cake, but its leveling that takes a couple of hrs if your going to do it correctly.
he dug out the perimeter of the pool maybe a couple of inches down ,then he filled with sand,
using a 2by4 piece of wood with a level on top and he went back and forth around the spot leveling. using the wood and level like a sundial.
once the leveling is done, it takes about 15 minutes to lay out the pool, while the water is filling you have to be inside on your knees pushing the wrinkles out as best you can so the floor will be as flat as possible. the pool fills in about 7 hrs id say. i have a 18 ft round and i couldnt live without it. i started with a 12 rd ,then went to 14, then 16 now 18.
i love the pool.
as far as the ring not working properly, i have no clue because mine has been as easy as just blow it up and start filling your pool, again if the pool is on level ground everything will fall into place.
i even left mine up last yr for the winter because i think the hardest part is packing them away. i live in Mass. so we get bitter cold weather. no leaks, no punctures.
i pour a couple of gallons of chlorine in it, covered it, secured it,,,, sure some dirt got in, but i just turned the filter on a couple of weeks before i knew i would need it and it was fine.
as far as your 8 yr old leaning on the side it tells you very clearly not to do this or else the side of the pool could collapse.
my pool is i beleive 45 inches high(somewhere around there)and there was awhile that i couldnt climb the ladder due to injury, so i just pushed on the side of the pool and climbed over. now im only 5'2" so by pushing on the side i did loose some water, but nothing to really speak of.
i love my pool and i have the most fun in it all summer. hey for $300 you cant beat it especially when you dont have to take it down.
i have leaned on the side of the rim and the pool side did collapse a bit, water went running out,, but i cant imagine a little 8 yr old having enough weight to almost go sliding out of the pool.
i wouldnt trade my pool for nothing. next summer my friend is going to build me a deck around it so then ill really be lovin it.
remember, anyone who is interested in getting one of these pools for financial reasons instead of a "real pool" just remember,,,,,,,, LEVEL, LEVEL, LEVEL THATS YOUR ANSWER!!!
enjoy
thanks

Re: bought it - took it back (Reply to this comment)
by lolobelove
I had one of these pools and this year we plan on buying a larger one. I'm still confused at your comment so those who have not bought one of these must be totally lost. Your "ring not floating" and side walls not correct had to be because of the way you laid it out. I know you said you decided to watch the video only after you were well in to your 15 minute project. When exactly did you read the manual? These pools are wonderful and work quite well when the directions are followed. I wasn't in a race to beat the 15 minute deadline so I took extra time to really spread it out well. Sounds like you over filled it for the ring to collapse and create the "falls". Happened to me once when I was adding water and went beyond the fill line. But then, an 8 yr. old boy hanging over that ring WOULD cause the problem you had. It is stated very clearly in the manual that this will happen.
The reason your ring deflated is because, again, they state very cleatly in the manual not to over fill with air. The sun causes the air to expand and could easily split the seam or create a hole by the seam. Coincidentally, at night, when the evening air is cool, it also now cools the air in the over-expanded ring so if you wake up to a ring that is half deflated, this is why. Kind of the same concept as not over-inflating the tires on your car. As for the pump and hoses not working, it's understandable when the pool is not laid out correctly before inflating and filling with water. Did you realize that the base of this pool extends further out than the top ring? That means that the "walls" of your pool are on an angle and the ring should hold it all together nicely with the natural weight of the water by the time it's filled. To those of you considering a purchase, watch the video, and by all means, read ALL of the manual and look at its' pictures. Do not set it up on anything but level ground - the slightest slope and combination of too much water can and will cause the "Niagra falls' effect just as easily as putting any kind of weight on the ring or just hanging over it. Your pool will not empty, but this woman is correct. It will create a surge of water like a spill way. So you can sign me - bought it, set it up - had tons of fun - and didn't take it back.

Mixed feelings on this product, but the Rim does deflate...... (Reply to this comment)
by scoobygrl75
This is an excellent pool if it wasn't for the rim deflating. I had bought an easy set pool last summer and the next morning when I went out to check on it, half the water was gone due to the rim deflating. We assumed there was a hole somewhere which we couldn't find, so we exchanged it for another just to have the same problem happen. But we taped it up around the hole where the air goes in and it worked for the whole summer. However, I just went out tonight w/ a friend of mine because they wanted a pool and the same thing happened. I said, this can not be happening again. I found out that if you only put 80 % of air in the rim instead of filling it up all the way which we have done in the past, then there should be no problem. Supposedly the reason is because the heat from the sun makes the rim expand w/ more air or something like that. I don't know how true this is, but I will write a review tomorrow and let you know if it worked. Because this time, we didn't put water in it yet, until we see if the rim stays inflated while the sun is out. My sister works at Walmart and says that only a few of these pools have been returned due to the rim deflating which surprised me, because I've had so many problems with this. Hopefully, if we fill the rim up w/ only 80% air, it will work.

Not setup up correctly? (Reply to this comment)
by pepper99
I'm curious why you had so many problems with the ring? Obviously it can't be leaned upon.

As for why it didn't rise correctly, I might suggest that your pool wasn't setup on a 100% level surface.

I have one of these pools myself, and know several others who do as well, and provding it's setup *correctly*, they are excellent.

Thanks for the warning! And thank goodness for Toys-R-Us generous return policy. I've taken advantage of it myself many a time.
