| sophiesdad's Full Review: Electrolux Ergorapido Rechargeable Upright Vacuum ... |
The bulk of my home has wall-to-wall carpet but the bathrooms and kitchen have tile. Though I really love my Hoover Bagless Upright, it is a hassle to switch to the tools that really get into the crevices and corners.
Over the years I have bought a variety of stick vacuums and none of them really lived up to my expectations. Then one day I was walking down the appliance aisle of my local BJ's Warehouse and spied the Electrolux stick. The first thing that I noticed was that the charger base can either be mounted on the wall or sit on the floor. The design of the unit is sleek and simple.
So I went home and did a few web searches for ratings on this vacuum. The majority of reviewers felt that it was a great value and did a credible job on not only tile, but also for light duty jobs on carpeting and rugs. Finally, with the push of two buttons, the main unit separates and you have a dustbuster for cleaning your car!
I picked it up for $89 and decided that I couldn't go wrong because BJ's return policy is 30 days with your receipt - no questions asked.
I unboxed the the vacuum and plugged in the charging base. A pleasant blue glow emanated from the base. I allowed the 12V battery to charge for 8 hours before the first use.
The unit has 2 speeds - low and high. I'm not quite sure why one would want this, but the 2 speeds are available. The stick is quite light and maneuvers very easily. Many previous sticks that I've owned have a fixed head which makes it difficult to get into odd corners. The Exectrolux, however, has a head that swivels easily which is a great feature.
Another thing that I appreciate is that this stick has rotating brushes at the head which help to get trapped dirt in grout and also does a credible job at brushing junk out of carpets.
The suction is better than any other sticks that I have owned. It easily picks up everything in its path. I have not noticed any loss of suction as the dirt cup fills.
Emptying the dirt cup is a breeze. You remove the main unit, push a button and the cup opens up. Another great feature that Electrolux added was a spring-loaded handle. Pulling on it and then releasing it gives a sharp "snap" to the filter to pound out any fine dust that may remain. I really love this because it means that my hands stay virtually clean through the entire process. All of the other sticks that I owned were completely messy to empty and I always had to take a brush to the filter membrane to remove the fine powder.
All in all, this is a great stick vacuum for small jobs, tile and rugs. The 12V battery provides enough power to get the job done. The charging station has a small footprint and, if mounted on a wall in a closet, takes up very little space.
Finally, when the hand-held unit is pulled from the main stick, I found that it has far more suction power than any Black & Decker Dustbuster that we have ever owned. I would highly recommend this vacuum as a light-duty unit for carpeted/tiled homes. Or, if your home is completely tiled or has wood/laminate floors, it can do the job in a snap. Electrolux has done a great job in its design and durability.
