| artiste's Full Review: Ericsson R380s Cell Phone |
R380 has many good points and some bad ones. It has allot of features including PDA functions, e mail, short text messaging, and wireless web access. However, it is not that user friendly.
When the dial pad cover is closed, R380 looks like phone. However, when it is opened, you see a wide touch screen which is backlit. It displays up to seven line of text. It also has a small stylus which is on the back of the device. I like the horizontal screen because it can display more words per each line. One problem with the phone is that it can hurt the wrist alittle when it is held in a horizontal position.
The screen is not very sharp to look at but it is readable. It syncs well with Microsoft Outlook. It comes with a serial cable and scynchronization software. R380 can sync with other PIMs and also Lotus Notes. Another flaw with R380 is that it has a very small amount of internal memory. It has 1.2 MB which is enough for 200 e mails, 1,000 contacts, 100 notes, and 700 calendar appointments. Also you can add applications to a PDA but you cannot do this with R 380.
R380 has allot of features. For example, contacts can be dialed automatically from the phone book. All you have to do is tap a number. It also has voice dialing, a calendar, a notepad, a to-do list, a call log, wireless Web browser, and it is fax capable.
I needed to read the manual to set up R380's more advanced features such as e mail, and SMS. I found the call quality to be quite good except when I used the phone in a building. There I had trouble getting a signal. I was also cut off from the Mobile Internet a few times, and had problems accessing it.
I was impressed with the battery life. I clocked four hours of talk time and 106 hours of standby.
This phone is great for corporate use because of all the rich features it has to offer. It costs $599. This is a good work phone with allot of features such as wireless e mail, and SMS today. For everyday personal use, it is too expensive although the variety of features may be useful.
